If you have fuel and spark at all cylinders, the i ask of check the air filter, as i have seen no starts as a result of a plugged air filter.

After that i might thing the timing belt skipped a tool, when was the last time that was changed?

Also please give us more info, was the car running poorly before this happened? Was it making any funny nosies? So on and so forth.

i just bought it less then a week ago. the guy said it just wouldnt start one day. took it a mechanic and he said fuel pump. they changed it and then got error codes tps, knock and o2. he never had the new sensors put on. i cleared the codes and nothing has come up since. i have checked them with a multimeter following the book and they seem good. i had a spare coil pack so i put that on and still no go. i how ever did not check all four cylinders for spark due to daylight running out. will check first thing in the morning. what are the symptoms of a bad ignitor? i have yet to check the timing but i did pop the corner of the cover off and the belt looks brand new. so my other guess is he tried to redo the belt and timed it wrong. as many ideas as possible would be greatful.

ive had two subies b4 this. 94 loyale and 86 gl. neither gave this much problem lol.

thanks

One last question then i'll sleep on it see if i come of with anything else.

whats the year and model of this car?

Let me get this straight, you bought this car non-running from someone cause they couldn't get it going?

If that is the case and the timing belt looks brand new, then that could very well be the issue, if its a 2.2L while it is very easy to time, if off by just a bit to much it will not run.

its a 92 legacy l. and yes i got the car non running but he didnt have the money to pay the mechanic to fix it. the mechanic said fuel pump then changed it. then error codes came up so he bought the tps knock and o2 sensor. never installed them cause mechanic wanted to much. i checked the sensors and they seem fine. no error codes. i do have a spare ej22 from a 93 legacy L i was swapping into my loyale. if need be i will swap it in here instead. but i thinks its all electrical. i wont have time today to check it cause i have to work but i should have time saturday to check the timing. i have a pdf explaining how to check the ignitor but i dont know the symptoms. im really just guessing on that one.

thanks again

+1 on the timing belt. If you've got fuel, and you've got spark, then the only thing that's keeping you down is timing. You can troubleshoot sensors all day, but if your timing is off it will never start.

the timing belt is very easy to do wrong if someone has never done one before. there are arrows on the pulleys that most people think are the timing marks but really the timing marks are just tiny notches. the first time i did my timing belt i used the arrows and it did not start. i took it off, did it again correctly and it started right up.
