WRX brakes? whats up with my turbo brakes?

Post by ericem »

Hey guys. Today picked up some wrx front brakes only used for a few months from a 04 wrx. Has pads, discs, bracket, lines. All look great, pads look new discs look good to just surface rust. Now my driver side caliper on my SS has a piston that got stuck. Got another caliper, but I am still curious. I feel more confident in running the wrx brakes obviously. Did some searching and I read some say it works with certain 15" rims? These are whats on my car.

Don't have much faith in these turbo brakes, the sliders keep getting stuck to. I am not sure if I need to install the boot a certain way, but I am greasing them and they do not slide very well and eventually don't want to move at all. It is a green slider grease. Had to hammer out the slider. Not sure if it is just the grease creating a issue? Should I use white lithium grease instead? Now I need a new slider boot because this one broke hammering it out.

WRX brakes dont fit under the stock SS 15". The only 15 that i'm sure clear the WRX brAkEs are the Team dyanamics pro rallies and a certain pair of enkei. Not sure which ones but i'll check next time i look at the rally car as those are the ones we use for tarmac rally events

Really? These brakes don't seem much bigger going to try them out. Is it the side that hits, or the top? They look to be wider, but height is the same.

Dammit they don't clear my rims. So going to source out some wrx rims. Either way how much are the rubber boot, the bottom boot where the slider goes in between?

Well put back my turbo brakes. All is great re-bled them. Just used lithium grease on the sliders and patched the seal with hi temp silicone.

There are quite a few sets of rally 15" wheels and others (like ssr comp c which is very light and a good rallycross wheel) that will fit over the wrx 2-pot brakes and the 4-pot USDM 06+ and jdm sti brakes.

The only way to make the wrx brakes fit under a Subaru OEM 15" wheel is to shave down that caliper and the wheels you would want to use are the turbo legacy early 6 spoke design or 95-?? outback and outback sport wheels. (same design just one has a machined lip) There might be other OEM 15" that they will fit under but these ones i am sure about. You can't use your wheels because they have ridges in between the spoke that would hit the caliper. I have shaved down my calipers and they have worked just fine through two years of driving and rallycrossing.

But if I were to have a choice of reasonably priced brakes to put on my car, I would have gone with impreza RS brakes, which are very close to the same size as your stock t-legs but use a WRX brake pad and caliper just different size bracket. This seriously opens up the option for nicer pads and a lot of performance rotors
