Anything for a SS or WRX will work. Most STI stuff will also, but some need the STI oilpan to clear.

You mention Japan as one of your locations, so any early WRX stuff will work also.

Yeah, the WRX and SS OEM ones are nearly identical. Keep the OEM cast stuff, it's more efficient then anything aftermarket.

Really? I did not know this, I guess that makes my build a little bit cheaper.

A WRX exhaust manifold will have a hole that needs to be plugged, that's all. Otherwise they are the same.

There is really no reason to go to a tubular manifold unless you are going to a twin scroll setup, or are trying to make over 500hp.

If you look up sound clips on like youtube of cars with equal length manifolds or other manifolds it really changes the sound. The boxer rumble seems partially a result of uneven lengths in the runners and getting a different manifold increases performance but gets rid of the sound.

I saw some website that offered porting and gasket matching to the stock manifolds so I guess that is an option as well as thermal coating if you want more out of your manifold.

I would not NOT buy a SS just because the exhaust was bad. That would be a cheap replaceable part.

Certainly. Exhaust pieces are easy enough to come by. He purchased a different SS anyway.
