SOLD: 1991 Subaru Legacy SS

Post by hu1k »

SOLD

Edit: The sad thing is I joined this forum solely because I bought this car, and before I could even post, I'm having to sell it. I'm hoping someone here can give it a good home.

As luck would have it, literally the day after I bought this Legacy turbo, I was offered an STi at a price I couldn't resist. I've only had the Legacy for a couple of weeks, so there's not much of a story. Here's what I do have...

I originally found the Legacy on Craigslist back in January, offered by a dude who flips auctioned Subarus.

Image

I called the dude and made an appointment to check it out. It was in really nice shape, even forgetting it's nearly 20 years old. From what I could tell, it was owned by an older person from Colorado Springs (there was an oil change sticker from a Briargate lube shop, and the sides of the car had this stupid black rubber strip to prevent door dings). I took it for a test drive and was sold.

Well, over the past couple of weeks, I've cleaned it up and have gotten to know it a little. I removed the pinstriping and rubber strips (which was a huge pain in the ass), purchased some decent floormats, changed the instrument cluster bulbs (one was burnt out so I just replaced them all), and cleaned it up a little.

The Good:

If you're looking at this listing, you probably know all about the early Legacy turbos. This car is completely stock and is low-mileage considering its age. In fact, it's easily the nicest I've seen in person. The engine purrs, the tranny shifts smoothly, and everything works. The body is straight, there are very few dings or scratches, and the paint shines.

The Bad (please bear in mind I'm being meticulous):

The driver's seat is worn (and there's a small hole in the under-vinyl of the left rear seat if you look at the pics above).

The dead pedal is worn.

A kid had crayons in the back seat.

The black paint on the moulding around the rear windows is chipped.

http://natenichols.net/1991LegacySS/DSC_0046.jpg

There's a ding on the trunk lid above the right taillight.
http://natenichols.net/1991LegacySS/DSC_0040.jpg

And the most serious issues is the left fender is fairly rusted underneath, which is a bit odd considering it's been (I believe) a Colorado car. The right side has evidently been repaired.

The carpet's a little dirty, as are the seats, but a good cleaning should take care of that. The ornamental plastic engine cover is cracked. The wheels have some curbing.

Really, it's in awesome shape considering it's nearly 20 years old. Added to the fact it's a 5-speed, this thing is a gem. I was planning on adding an intercooler and a few other minor updgrades, but after buying the STi, I just don't have room for this car.

PM if interested.

SOLD

Also, I'll be selling a 1989 Mitsubishi Mirage turbo with a 4G63T swap and a 1998 Subaru Impreza L that's basically an RS clone in the near future, if anyone's interested. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful legacy! You don't seem 'em that clean anymore. Especially with that low of milage. I would give you $3,500 for it if I had it.

I'm the lucky owner of this guy now and was pointed to these forums by Matt Monson. It's a great car and I've enjoyed driving it this week. I bought it as a daily driver to keep miles off of my STI, but of course I plan to add a few things to it here and there. You guys have a great site here and I've been tearing through everything trying to learn as much as I can. I've got a pretty big list of things to do already thanks to the knowledge here. Cheers!
