Half shaft replacement

Post by atroby91 »

So i had been noticing this slight vibration/tic/ whatever when i hit certain speeds. I wasn't sure what it was until i put my car up on the lift at school and found my CV boot was ripped WIDE open. It had been like that for prolly 5 months but had just recently gotten worse. So to summit racing i went and ordered a new half shaft (which came today). I plan on putting it in sometime this week. Wish me luck! :-D (any tips?)

Tips hmm. ALOT easier to remove the balljoint from the knuckle side and not from the control arm. Also if you don't have a impact loosen the cv bolt with the wheels on the floor first and get the exact size punch to get out the pin at the diff side. It was as easy as that. Basically after all the hardware was out, moved the hub and slid the axle out of the diff side, then out of the hub.

Yep, there easy. Just don't pull the stub shaft out of the trans... no life ending if you do, but easier to remove the roll pin and just slide it off.

Loosen & remove the 10 mm bolt that is parallel to the ground on the spindle at the lower ball joint, use a bar to loosen the ball joint stud from the spindle/hub and separate it there. That will give you enough freeplay to pull the hub out (stilll attached to the strut, just pivot it out) and slide the halfshaft out.

Takes about 30 minutes start to finish.

Oh, you'll have to crawl under the car to drive out the roll pin, so make sure you use jack stands and goggles (don't ask me how I know...)
