92 Legacy Turbo 5spd

Post by William D. Robinson »

Hi Ryan

I don't know much about intake systems except that I have known people who
had very noisy intakes that drank their oil and ate MAF sensors. I am
completely stock in the intake dept. except for a K&N flat panel filter.
When I get a minute I will install my big BOV into a modified stock rubber
turbo feeder tube.

Here is what my car typically runs. At the moment I am running stock boost
levels as I was doing some diagnostic work, but I will be up to about 15psi
in a couple of weeks.

I have a bigger Mitsubishi turbo off a JDM Legacy, but I really don't know
if it did me any good, as my car was never able to provide full fuel. I
have a Walbro fuel pump and a Vortech 4/1 rising rate fuel pressure
regulator to address that.problem. I'll let everyone know how it works at
big boost. Do not do business with Vortech. Their tech support line is a
joke and they are a bunch of ignorant dicks.

EJ22T with old type angled WRX air-to-air intercooler ducted into 97 Impreza
Outback Sport hood scoop. 3" custom downpipe feeding into high flow cat,
(This is the end of mandrel bends) followed by braided flex joint, then
non-mandrel mild steel to 18" bullet glasspak with 3" diameter
straight-through perforated muffler. 3" chrome tip. (no codpiece for this
country boy, what you see is what it really is) Very loud and very robust
sound.

I have 2 ECUs, One screwed up with unreliablefuel cut interrupter by
Superchips and one perfectly stock with GREDDY boost limitercut gizmo.
GREDDY works better than Superchips. APEXi AVC-R fuzzy logic boost
controller. I have never programmed this is its most sophisticated ways.
I'm proud of secret mounting in upside down stock mini glovebox where a CD
would normally go.

TurboXS big purple adjustable blow-off valve soon to be ducted between pipe
just outside turbo right up to modifoied intake. I greatly prefer ducting
back in rather than blowing to atmosphere.

5 speed tranny rebuilt by Richard Buckner with newer style synchros, Shifts
way way better than new. Much easier to catch lower gears downshifting at
speed Don't even think of a shifter kit until the tranny can shift
internally as fast as a 100 year old man drunk arthritic can move the stock
shifter.

WRX group N rally clutch with full disk

KYB AGX adjustable struts on stock springs

Valentine One (real menaces to society on the highways always run a V1. All
others really suck by comparison. I've owned every high-end radar detector
since the original Fuzzbuster in the early 70s and The Valentine One, while
too damn big and heavy provides more and better info than anything else.

VDO boost gauge in pod on dash top just left of steering wheel

Cyberdyne air/fuel gauge in pod next to boost gauge.

Stock wheels (I own 15 stock wheels) with Dunlop SP8000 205/55/15 summer
(don't like em, great in dry, piss poor at limits in rain, extremely
responsive in both directions i.e they follow every rut.) Michelin Arctic
Alpin studless 196/60/15 in winter (love em)

That's all I can think of for now.

Bill

Hi Bill, I am going to do the engine swap to EJ20G JDM Legacy turbo,
I know you are one of the expert and could you tell me what should I
have to keep an eye on the engine after the shop done the swap?
Ben
