Are you going to do it yourself?

If you do it yourself and buy Genuine subaru parts it will be at least $600 or so to buy the seal kit, rings, bearings. Just depends what breaks i guess.

Can you hone a cylinder with basic hand tools? Can you do valve work with basic hand tools?

What exactly did your rebuild involve?

:-D

I was going to rebuild mine but it was going to cost a ton and I don't have the funds and don't know when I will so I'm gonna just try to piece a motor together and throw it in to get my car running until I can rebuild it and build the engine.

Ok, when I rebuilt my motor (I built it myself so this is sans-labor) it cost about $1200, but i did a bunch of crap, like sending the block to get hot tanked, new cams, fancy engine bearings and pretty much bought everything from subaru except for the timing belt kit, fancy clutch, turbo gaskets etc... it adds up fast.

A shop will probably charge at least 10 hours to do an overhaul @ around $80/hr for labor, assuming you just bring them the engine.

I've been wondering about this myself because I have a closed deck ej22t sitting around that need rebuilt but I'd also like a slight bore increase. I don't know what to do about it. I took my request to an place that rebuilds engines locally (not an easy task here) called Palmer Engines on Third Street, Williamsport and they said that the engine style was junk and not worth it. I told him that he was nuts and that the accepted wisdom was that the engine was actually considered pretty sturdy and quite commonly rebuilt for street cars. He just looked at me and said he'd check on it, in a dismissive manner. I didn't go back. That's kind of why I'm considering selling it.

that guy is a retard. its that simple.

You can buy .040" oversized pistons if you want a slight bore increase...

some people are scared to work on suby engines because they do not know anything about them.
