91 turbo leg 5 spd stuck in 5th

Post by alexfuik »

wow, i can't believe the journey ive had. im alex. im a mastertech, work from home now, and i consider myself a japanese car specialist. i have a 91 leg 2.2 turbo. did heads . runs awesome. i put 10 miles on it, then, the trans decided to stick in 5th gear. ive been all over the country...actually the world....looking for a used tranny. this is an awd pull clutch. this guy is into me over a grand, a fair price for the work. did a valve grind too. i cant tell him i cant find a trans and i sure dont want to tell him another grand or more. does anybody know the cross referencing? can i use wrx trans or any 2.2 with pull clutch? if so witch cars have 2.2 pull clutch? you guys/gals could really help, i know it, thanx.

Do a search, newb!
j/k. Any pull-clutch tranny will swap in as long as the final drive matches that of the rear diff. Or you swap the diff as well, but that's more $.
If you do a search for 'WRX tranny swap' you'll probably find some useful info as its a fairly popular one.

A WRX trans can be used, however there are a few items that need to be addressed.

Pretty much the 91-94 turbo legacy is the only newer style subaru transmission until the WRX in 2002 to use the pull style clutch setup. You may be able to find a pull style cutch trans overseas. You would more then likely need to address the rear diff though.

Just order a 4.11 tranny and change the rear diff...

Nippon Motors always has 4.11 units in stock
