SPECS:
Model: 1998 Forester S
Tranmission: 5MT
Drive type: AWD
Engine: EJ25 (2.5 liter DOHC, 163/165 hp/tq)
Exterior: Arcadia green / Slate two-tone
Interior: tan leather interior
Mileage: 200,xxx.
Exterior condition: There are a few door dings and scratches. The most prevalent scratch is on the rear passenger door. It's about 3" long by .25" wide. That door was also painted at some point by the previous owner, and the paint doesn't match perfectly. It looks like it was painted Spruce Green or something. The clear on that door is peeling a big.
The bumper cladding is flaking. I was going to paint it with Rhynoliner, but never got the time.
There are some worn paint spots on the hood and fenders from where the bug deflector was rubbing.
The rest of the paint looks great. I'd imagine that PDR could get rid of the door dents and a shop could easily repaint that back door and fix the hood/fenders, and the car would look fantastic!
Interior condition: The interior is in great shape. The floormats could use a good shampooing, but the carpet is in great shape. The leather is in good shape, no tears or anything. The backseat looks almost brand new. The front seats have seen better days, but don't look NEAR 200,000 miles old.
The car has that faux wood-grain in it, which all looks great. The seat heaters work great. One of the window switch bezels (the passenger side one) is loose, but I didn't notice it for the first 2.5 years I owned the car. The rear cargo area is a bit scratched up thanks to dogs, but is in overall good shape.
As with all Foresters, the center console is wobbly.
Mechanical condition: Very sound, motor and tranny run fine and gets good MPG for the tires it has. The timing belt was done at 160k and the head gaskets were replaced at 130k. I do a compression test with each plug change (every 10 to 12k miles) and it's been nice and even across the board.
Wheel bearings were replaced 20k ago (all 4), as was 90% of the suspension.
New clutch at 130k, definitely not time for a replacement. The clutch looked brand new when I replaced the trans.
The transmission is a brand new-zero mile unit from Subaru and was installed around 20k ago as well.
The car could use new front brake rotors and the left front axle boot is torn and needs replacing.
The car has been using only the best lubricants since I've owned it.
Upgrades:
- WRX front brake conversion (rotors, brackets) w/ Axis Metal Master pads
- Removed Snorkus
- Heavy Duty Headlight Wiring Harness
- K&N Air Filter
- New Interstate Battery
- Front Strut Tower Brace
- OEM Compass Gauge Pack
- Clifford Matrix 3.5 2-way Alarm System (My favorite modification!)
- STi blue/silver key
- Red Gauge Lighting
- RedlineGoods shift boot with 2.5RS red-stitched shift knob
- Auto-dimming compass mirror
- Rockford Fosgate POWER speakers
- Kartboy Shifter bushings and TIC crossmember bushings
- Mostly complete Sea-Scooby Sub Kit (just need to find a grille for it, and a sub to fill it).
- Cargo Mat
- 268x18mm Vented Rear Brakes (Old Legacy Turbo brakes).
- Reinforced cargo floor (because my spare was mounted on the roof).
- Stock flat-5-spoke 16x6.5" et48 wheels with 215/70/16 General Grabber AT2's (the largest tire on any SF in the country, that I know of!). The tires are in GREAT shape and have, probably, another 40 to 50 thousand miles in them.
- Rear lateral links and trailing arms from a 2004 SG Forester.
- I have control arms from a 2006 SG, but they aren't currrently installed.
- KYB GR2's for a 2004 SG (20k on them).
- The car sits an overall 20mm wider than a stock SF.
- Hidden hitch 1.25" receiver.
- No RSB, but the tabs on the lateral links are in-tact for one.
- 2" Suspension Lift
- Primitive Racing 3/16" skid plate
- OEM Rear diff guard
- Yakima Loadwarrior roof basket with extension and spare tire mount
*NAV not included*
This is a very reliable daily driver with a few tasteful upgrades to boot. I hope it goes to someone who can appreciate it as much as I have. Must sell. The car has had one heck of a life. It's been totally reliable, never leaving me stranded and never barking back. It's a LOT of fun off-road, and it's a COMPLETE monster in the snow.
I'd be willing to help organize shipping for anyone interested in other areas of the country.
I'd like to get $4000 as the car sits.

/\ and so are both of yours! /\
I know of a few guys that transport cars cross country who should be willing to take your car wherever it may need to go.
Price varies by mileage and sometimes how many pickups he can get along the way. PM me if you need a quote, should someone be seriously interested elsewhere in the country.
I'm in MA, but these guys will go anywhere for reasonable.
Good luck with your sale!
