ok suspension again

Post by SILINC3R »

car 90 FWD N/A

have 04 WRX springs not STI

Putting only the fronts in cause the rear is low enough with my 215/45 -17s (in the front as well) now.

04 WRX springs will work but i believe I need 04 WRX top hats

also should i just look into buying a hole 04 WRX strut assembly complete with strut, spring, and to hats. since this would al most be easier

hoping i have this info correct, and yes i have searched and this is what i have come up with

DerFahrer states on another thread post that you need the WRX spring perches/top hats for the fronts.

spring perches/top hats is this the same thing. i saw in the diagrahm that they are not but maybe i am mistaken

please help if you can. sorry i have asked about this many times but i cant seem to understand or get it right

The upper spring perch and tophat are one piece in the rear only, and only in some applications. The upper spring perch, that sits directly on top of the spring, is definately a separate part than the tophat, which rotates independently of the rest of the assembled strut (in the front) and bolts to the car.

I'm not experienced w/ the fwd suspension. But I would think that if the spring rates are significantly different between front and rear it may cause some handling quirks.

i still dont understand why there would be a differnce in the FWD and turbo cars. is it just because one is more "sporty sedan" lol

It's not FWD vs. turbo, it's FWD vs. AWD.

The rear hub attachment is different between FWD and AWD. The entire hub is different, as it's not an AWD hub. This is the root cause of the reason you can't use AWD struts on a FWD car.

Struts are different between the AWD & FWD cars. The springs aren't as much of an issue. I ran the WL control lowering springs while my car was FWD, and used the same springs when I converted it to AWD. The ride height really didn't change that much.
