oil leak under intake manifold

Post by ericem »

Hey guys, not sure if this leak is getting worse or not, but what usually leaks under the intake manifold? keep in mind I just replace my valve cover seals. I was fiddling around with the plastic hose on the passenger side near the front of the motor. Never thought there was actually oil going through those lines though? It is making a slight puddle, doesn't look like it is getting worse. How likely is it, I will need to remove the intake manifold?

Can you take a picture of what you're talking about? I'm having trouble picturing where exactly the problem is.

my power steering pump is leaking slightly out of the rear seal creating a small wet spot under the pass intake manifold i clean it off every oil change and top up the fluid and its fine for 5000k. then again same thing.

just an idea

If the puddle of oil is on the passenger side, and on the block not the ground. It might be the oil pressure sending unit. It's the sensor right behind the alternator. If it is wet at the connector, I'll bet that is your problem. Cheap fix, no more than 10 dollars I think it was?

My 93 had a huge leak from that sensor I was hoping it was that. Looks to be coming from that breather near that oil sensor. I was fiddling around with that plastic pipe, and I have a funny feeling I cracked it. Does anyone think removing the alternator is enough room to get in there? Going to replace all the hoses in that area. Any risk driving like this?

I just broke one of those the other day... you have to pull the intake manifold to really get at it as it goes along the entire length of the manifold. Connects the left and right valve covers and the block in the center IIRC... get that 180 degree hose too... Ohh and check the coolant tube for leaks while you are there.

I'm not sure but I think the alternator being removed should be enough room if you just get a t-pipe and run hoses from it to the valve covers. Course you will have to fish them through.

Anything else that could possible be leaking? Going to replace all the plastic fittings and hoses going to that line. Is it possible it can decrease power and make the fuel economy worse?

Damn old rubber and plastic sucks. Replaced the rubber lines for the PCV they were all plastic. The bottom one was cracked most definitely as well.Broke the main plastic piece, so I had to melt the plastic together then I high temp siliconed around it incase. Seemed to have held. Not sure if it is leaking from there to begin with though. Rechecked it, didn't look like there was any oil leaking anymore, then again I did not clean it very well. These turbos sure are tiny. Had no shaft play though.
