How much boost before I need larger injectors?

Heads, valves, pistons, rods, crankshaft, etc...

Seriously... search through old posts I've made about how fuel pressure works. It'll all make sense.

Yeah...I'd say you have a lot of reading to do before you attempt any of this Spencer...because if you don't understand 100% what you are doing and what effects it has on your engine, then you stand a very good chance of blowing it to pieces.

I did my homework before I really went nuts with my SS, and that is why it has 216,000 miles on the engine, runs 20psi out of a VF8, and is still alive.

Thats why I'm here asking questions... So I go into this knowing what I'm doing and I dont come out of it needing to swap in that spare ej22t sitting in my wrecked car. (That is being saved for something else).

+1 on getting a feel for what you want to do & how this stuff works, you should get a decent idea about these things pretty quickly as they are not very complicated.

Walbro fuel pump question

Post by SubaruNation »

So, just to update this thread a bit, i am looking for a walbro fuel pump right now.

I need to know which one to buy specifically, and if someone could point me in the right direction.

I imagine that it really doesn't matter, in terms of wrx/sti model year, but i would like to know the correct one to buy so i don't waste cash :-D

would this one work?

http://www.jdsperformance.com/index.asp ... m&inmake=0

Also, i was told that NAPA sells fuel pumps that are re-branded walbro fuel pumps. Can anyone confirm this?

Basically can i buy one of the Fuel pumps from that site and will it work perfect?

I don't know about that link. I don't see how one can be a high pressure version but it still only pumps 255LPH.

To be honest, a brand new Walbro from the dealer is only like $100 after tax and you'll get the exact product you want and you won't have to wait around for shipping. It's worth paying the extra $20 for it in my opinion....

they sell them at the stealerships?!

edit: mine doesn't....

*also will i have to redo my fuel lines to handle a fuel pressure increase of this much?

I was running a base fuel pressure of almost 60psi + 23psi from boost pressure and I didn't have issues. As far as fuel lines go, lol.

The Goodyear fuel line with the blue plastic inside can hold ALOT of fuel pressure (over 100psi steady state no problem) but is expensive - $8/ft.

^ When I bought the goodyear stuff, it was $4.50 at Checker about a year and a half ago. I can't find that stuff anymore, but O'Reily has some nice Gates hose for about $6.50 a foot. Which is all rediculous anyways because braided stainless -6 line is cheaper than that. I paid $5.15 a foot for Aeroquip -6.

Wait, what is that chip in the other thread about? Stage 1, 2 etc? Doesn't that up boost to like 13psi on a stage 1, and up to 16psi on a stage 2? Do you need new injectors with a stage 2?

Look at overall boost numbers, not peak numbers. 16psi does not mean you have that at redline.

IM RUNNING STAGE 1.5, oops, on stock injectors which is just under 14 psi tapering to about 13 at redline.

that peak boost is for the vf11, with the td04 it doesnt drop as much.

it eliminatess the need for any pp6, link ect.

stg. 2 you need injectors, maf, ect

Here's my setup for reference.

Im running 440cc with a Walbro on the stock Turbo Legacy ecu. I have a stroked EJ22T with DOHC Heads and a VF39 running 15psi. My afr peaks at 12.2. Not so good, but safe until I can get engine management. I did dyno 261hp and 279ft/lbs. You can also check out my set up by clicking the link in my sig.

Yes it is. It was running a 98 Outback Fuel Pump. When I went to dyno it, I upgraded to the Walbro.

Installing a RRFPR ?

Post by CFK »

I know, I've read this thread like 4X and ended up buying a 1:1 RRFPR / FMU and am not exactly sure how to install it now

Started a thread : http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=46556

Could have just bumped this one up, but there's no "install" in the title and couldn't find anything with the search function :-)
