When looking for a tdo4

Post by SubiePrice88 »

Hey Im looking for some advice and more knowledge, Ive been looking at getting a tdo4 and just need some tips on what to look for as far as milage, shaft play, price, ect.

So far Ive found one that was taken out of a 04 wrx at around 60k miles and was never boosted over 17psi(Cobb Ots Stg2 Map) $150

The other one says it has roughly 6k miles and wants $200 firm.

You can get one for $100 or less. Mileage is mostly irrelevent as you're taking the seller at his word. Just make sure shaft play is minimal and there is nothing obviously wrong w/ the housing. Td04s aren't known for blowing seals, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to check for signs of that, as well.

+1. Keep your eyes open for a deal, there's tons of WRX TD04's out there for sale. I found one in great shape for $50 delivered to my door.

150 is too much. $200 the guy is out of his mind.

I saw one for $140 a few months ago on NASIOC (which is where I would look if I was you, scour that place day in and day out) and I offered the guy $140 shipped to my door. I was about to buy a different one for $100 shipped but this one claimed to only have 2,000 miles on it and it looked new. I believe him because when I got the turbo it looks new except some exhaust residue where it should be.

I think there's a guy who's been trying to sell his VF11 in typical used 150-200K mile condition on craigslist for months now for either $100-$150 and I had to email him and let him know he would never get that much for it. $40 is more like it.

You could also try a 'WTB' ad on nasioc. Likely there's more than one unused, unloved td04 sitting in someone's garage somewhere collecting dust.
Ebay is another option, but probably best to go cheap as the actuall condition might not be as described.

Well I know where to find one and the price range they should be in now.

So it just needs to have minimal to no shaft play. And if the seller is being honest about miles than probably one with lower miles.

This is the one im considering:

Before you buy it, try asking the seller if he can take a video of him spinning the wheel and trying to jiggle it, that way he can prove that there's little to no shaft play.

That's what the person selling my turbo did for me and it just gave me that extra bit of confidence in spending $400 on a used car part.

 ^But don't spend $400 on a used td04. :P
For the same price, yes, the lower miles the better as long as theres no shaft play.

^ Hahaha yeah definitely do NOT spend that on a TD04. I spent the $400 on a TD05 w/o shaft play so it was worth the price.

haha alright. Ill see what I can do about getting a video from the seller.

I think Ive actually seen some used TD04's on nasioc going for $300 and they have been on there for a long time.

But for me right now anything $100 or less would be perfect.

Thanks guys!!
