Hello LegacyCentral!
im new here from over on nasioc, but ive started lurking here since i found my EJ22t block. I am doing an ej22t/ej20 hybrid build in my 2002 WRX.
Hopefully, since you guy over here at legacycentral are far more knowledgable when it comes to this motor, you guys can answer me a few questions.
I know you can stroke the motor by using the phase I 2.5 rods and crank, but, other than the lack of that stroke is there any reason not to use the stock crank and rods?
Where/Who makes the forged pistons made for EJ20 heads on the EJ22t, so as to raise the CR to 8.5:1 instead the 7.4:1 or whatever it ends up being?
Can i just use an EJ20 timing belt kit instead of the leggy turbo one, or will i need to build a timing kit from the two?
Are there any tranny to motor compatibility issues or modifications needed? i have a V7 JDM STi 6 speed(no DCCD), and dont want to change that.
Any other info that would be helpful would be greatly appreciated.

The STi, WRX and EJ25D timing belts are the same. I've got a Gates Racing WRX/STi belt I'll be using.
You end up with the low compression ratio is you use the stock EJ22T headgasket. They are tough, but they are also .059" thick. Cometic makes a 98mm bore, .051" gasket for that particular application.
Wiseco makes pistons for this motor that have 6cc less dish than stock. I have them, but I wish I would have saved for CP's. Wiseco has had some issues in the past. The CP's are quieter too, as you run less wall clearance than other aftermarket piston makers.

sorry am i bit confused are you using an ej25 Na Phase 1 crank and rods in an ej20t block?
also would this work with
ej20g closed deck (with piston squirters)
sti v5 pistons forged
ej20r heads (solid lifter)
what would the resulting displacement be? i heard 2.2l

Phase 1 blocks can be machined to accept phase 2 cranks. This makes finding rods a *little* bit easier.
I'm going to add a bit of personal narrative here, pass on by if your thickheaded.
The stroker 2.35 formula was started before the EJ257/EJ255 exsisted. While it's still a valid build (and I'm still persuing one, for now), for 90 percent of us it's better to just build/buy an EJ25 shortblock. You can pick up a brand spanking new EJ257 for about $1800. You can buy a used one and rebuild it with forged pistons for a bit less. You would be hard pressed to get much cheaper with an EJ22T stroker of equal quality or power capacity.
I've done tons of research, and thinking. There are reasons to build a stroker, but most are subjective ("to be different", "original block", "closed deck", etc). Objectively....rebuild as a 2.2 and push a bit more boost/rev higher or build/buy a 2.5.
