2.2l turbo build help

Post by dah352 »

I have an ej22e out of a 96 Impreza L with almost 150k miles on it and was wondering if it is safe to turbo such a high mileage engine. I have heard that if you get it compression and leakdown tested and everything checks out it should be fine so is this true? If it is safe to turbo I was looking at swapping ej20g or ej20k heads and intake manifold which I hear will drop the cr to around 8.7:1 (is this accurate?) then running a wrx turbo. I also heard that if I go with those heads/intake I can use my stock ecu (agian is this true and that means I could use the stock wiring harness right?). I know I will need some kind of engine manage management but what would be my options with this setup? I would like this to be fairly low cost but I do know it will cost money to do things right and I am not looking to run high boost or anything (stock wrx boost at most probably) but I would like the car to still be reliable. So does it sound like this build is possible with my goals and how would the reliability be?

That thread cleared a few things up but I sill have a lot of questions and it is kinda dead now. I'm pretty new to this sort of thing so any help would be greatly appreciated.
