DAMMIT its over heating again!!!

Post by subaruracer755@cs.com »

ok its been a litttle over a month. no problems, then i drove up to VT today for mothers day. about 5 miles out of my destination (vergennes) I notice my heat gauge on the high side. so likie last time i gave it a little gas and foom ,went back down. got to her house, and checked everything. resivoirs full to the top.. coolent it room temp, touchable. the 2ndary water tank is about 1/2 full. heres my question... should that 2ndary water tank ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY be above the engine??? mine is about 1 inch below the top of the radiator... last time it over heated about a month ago, i replaced the termostat.. no problems since... now this again! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA someone help!

DAMMIT its over heating again!!!

I had the same symptoms on a n.a.legacy and it turned out to be a head gasket. The leak was charging the cooling system with exhaust. Does your coolant smell like exhaust or gas? If so it is probably the head gasket.I hope not,but maybe this info will save you some time. BillC

do the fans spin when it's hot? if not then it's a bad coolant temperature probe. The secondary coolant tank should be raised above the turbo. It allows coolant to still flow through convection when the engine is not running(or so i've read). That tank should be full though. If it was full and isn't now, maybe you have a leak somehwere in the system and the worst case would be as someone else suggested an immeninent head gasket problem.

good luck,
lex
