Anyone replace there o2 sensor?

Post by ericem »

Looked around the forum, and haven't read anywhere, where someone actually replaced it. I am thinking ill get a oem sensor it is around $120 but if it saves me $5 a week in gas it is worth it. Hopefully the engine will run a bit more consistent too. I figure I will replace the coolant temp sensor, and wires, and plugs again to, except all OEM.

Another question. I gapped my last set of plugs at 0.40. Is that ok? Anyone had better experience at other gapping? Thanks!

If you hooked a scan tool of some sort (evoscan, b10scan, etc) and actually looked at the values of the various sensor, you would get a better idea if they're in spec or not. That is, unless you like replacing sensors willy-nilly at $!20 a pop ;)

I think that happened to me also...I went with a Bosch universal replacement one.

Before you spend money on an O2 sensor, why don't you do the plugs and leads, fuel and air filters, check all your vacuum hoses.

Perhaps the O2 sensor readings will be within range and it will not be needed after that.

If you really suspect the O2 sensor the test for it is very simple. Warm the engine up and backprobe the O2 sensors connector and there should ba a fluctuatng voltage if all is well. If the voltage is fluctuating around the point four-five of a volt mark with swings of up to about point four of a volt up and down over the course of a few seconds you don't need to test anything else.

I still need to do my fuel filter, and I should replace my plugs again as I do not think the washers are sealing well, I remember two plugs were leaking at the washer when I checked the gapping... Wires are recent and OEM

I am always looking for leaks, but I can not find anything. Any common vacuum leaks?!

Yes. The wire on it is longer, but all you need to do is ziptie it to the engine pitch stop. Plus, it's like $50 cheaper.

That is it? Perfect! Have a new one in my N/A legacy. I think Sunday if it is a nice day, going to swap over my wrx suspension, o2 sensor, and coolant temp sensor. They are all oem and were replaced like during the summer.
