Exhaust Tip?
I bought a 3" Borla ProXS muffler for my 91 SS and it just has a 3" pipe sticking out both ends. No tip and I don't know how far the muffler will be to the bumper.
Should I get an exhaust tip? Which one do you guys think would look best on our cars? I don't like it when you can see that it's clearly a tip because you can see where the tip ends and gets smaller. It's a 3" exhaust though so maybe just get some 3" stainless pipe off the muffler? Anybody got some pics of their setup?
The muffler is this one.

I kind of like the look and angle of this one but I want the tips to be longer so you can't see where it goes from one pipe to two.

Or do you think a single pipe would look better?

its really all abotu your preference man whatever you think looks best... the dual tip seems like it would look pretty sweet... i have a big can hanging off the back on mine (thats how i bought the car) and ive already gotten pulled over for it. It sounds mean as hell but i dont really like the ricer-ish look of it. im not sure if im gonna do anything to it or leave it yet.
but good luck on your decision, either way it will still have a rumble and sound beastly!! lol

I've never been a fan of fake dual tip exhausts. I don't even like the stock SS exhaust. But it's up to you, whatever you like best. I'd at least get some sort of tip though, the issue people have with tips is when you put them on a stock exhaust, not when you put them on a universal like that, it's expected to have a tip on that exhaust.
If you really don't like the look of the different sized tip, have an exhaust shop put on a tip that's the same size, it would look silly with the little 2" outlet that's on it now, but would look just fine if it was extended out a bit.

it's your ride man, you choose what looks good
but since you are asking:
I think that unless you have a hard tune, it fits the spirit of the car to remain understated and simple
also, something non flashy will help convince cops that your car is loud because it is old
stealth = good for dailydriving

The reason I was leaning toward the dual tip look was because it would fill that gap in the bumper for the exhaust nicely like the stock tips do. It would fit right in. Plus I don't really like the huge fart can look either.
Nobody's got any pics of their exhausts?

What is that blue shit?
On topic i really think a tip that has the same profile as the bumper opening would be sweet, sort of oval with a flat bottom to plane out with the bottom of the bumper,i think porsche does that.

I didn't know people rallied cars with that kind of wheel gap. Crazy. I don't know much about rally but I thought you'd need more suspension travel than that.
How does it do? What suspension is on there and how big are the wheels?
BTW that straight pipe off the muffler doesn't look too bad actually. Thanks

not real rally, just rally-cross, which I can only imagine is way easier on suspension and the like, but in my area involved lots of rocks and so was hard on the body
those wheels are 17'' with 225s on, and they don't go in dirt/sno
for rally-x I have 16s with studded 205s, so there is a lot more room in there
if you need flaps I recommend going to a Flying Js or some truck stop and picking up big rig rubber flaps. that's what I did to replace those blue ones. One semi flap was about $15 and easily produced two flaps after cutting it in half and trimming extra off

I picked them up years ago online. They are Sparco so I thought they were going to be really nice, but they sucked. One of the rally-x events was almost -40 degrees and two of those flaps shattered. shattered.Fkyx wrote:Where did you get the flaps?

Thanks Andrew.
Here's my pseudo-on-topic contribution. Don't know where the muffler came from. 3" tip:
I want to convert over to a dual tip exhaust also.

I agree with just about everything said here, its your car so get what you like.
No tip makes it hidden, A tip makes it stand out a little more flashy, a can looks alright if it was done right, usualy it looks ricer-ish. IMO
Really good choices above tho.. you can also go to a muffler shop and have them hold different tips up while you stand back and look
Good Luck man!

This is the look I was after. I guess I should have gotten a dual tip muffler.
Can I still put dual tips on a single outlet muffler or will it look retarded?

BTW I've had quite the difficult time just trying to find 3" inlet exhaust tips whether it be single or dual but dual is especially hard to come across. They're all 2.5" in and 3" out.

That's my car! But I got lucky. I found a used Bosal twin-tip catback, so it came pretty complete.
If you look at some of the other pics, you can see that, at least my case, the muffler is too close to the rear of the bumper to conceal a 1 inlet to 2 outlet tip. The "Y" would be completely visable. I would try to sell/trade for a proper dual outlet muffler.
Or possibly run mufflerless and use a "Y" tip alone? With a resonator and a catalytic convertor I bet the sound would be acceptable.

I'd like it to be relatively quiet if possible. Plus I don't want to run a cat.
