Can I remove the trans brake lock thingy?

Post by heathcom »

I have a 91 Legacy L auto, I am constantly stopping, parking, driving, stopping, parking, driving etc.... The trans lock thing that unlocks when the brake is pressed is a major pain. Is there a way to bypass this?

Yeah you can probably remove it. Or just wire it up with 12v to a switch so the solenoid is always energized when the switch is on, and will allow you to shift without having to depress the brake.

Don't you need to hit the brake anyway? Not a good idea to shift to reverse or drive while rolling you know. Just leave your foot floating around the brake pedal. I always do that whats the big deal?

When Im at a dead stop, which is over 100+ times a day, I would like to be able to just put in drive and go. The hit the brake switchy thing has been acting up so I sometimes have to press the brake several times and jiggle the shift button. The big deal is its a pain in the ass.
Any idea where the solenoid is located for that switch?

Theres actually a button right behind the shifter which allows you to shift when the car is off or what have you. Didnt know what that was for til now. Just got to find a way to keep that button pushed in and its all good ;)
