cleaning an external wastegate (tial)

Post by SubaruNation »

has anyone ever done this?

do you have any tips if so?

i think that my external is causing mad boost spikes and i need to get it fixed.

I imagine i will have to replace gaskets..etc but im wondering what the issue is.

any input greatly appreciated.

thanks,

I haven't had an issue with my 44mm in the two years I've ran it.

Carb cleaner or Seafoam and a toothbrush should fairly easily take care of my carbon that has built up on the valve and the valve seat.

Maybe take it apart to see if there is an issue with the vavle stem orthe diaphram?

TiAL has instructions for wastegate disassembly/reassembly on their website.

Cool i can do that for sure, maybe give them a call.

The other thing i was thinking that it could be is the Blitz EBC,

Smh0101 recommended that i exchange or swap out the lines on the ebc with a MBC and see if that would fix my 24+ psi boost spikes.

I am definitely staying out of boost for the time being, as i really don't want anything bad to happen.

gotta solve this mystery! :smt024

Yeah, I'd think the EBC would be a problem long before the EWG would.

Is it a spike that makes you hit fuel cut or something, or is it a boost overrun that settles back down?

thats the thing i dont get, its like the car randomly lets it slip past my 13psi limit i have set on the Greddy EBC.

it has only happened when i really stomped on it, and i was in the higher rpms in like 3rd/4th gear.

and i dont think i have fuel cut b/c the car has all kinds of intense AEM stuff that brydon wired in, and i [the car] have gone all the way to 29psi (NOT ON PURPOSE :( )

it might be that i just need the car finely tuned?? ugh

but since i have bolted the downpipe to the xternal wastegate, it (seems) like it might have helped, even though it happened again on saturday night.. so that didnt do anything.

I think it might be a spike because when i notice it go past 14 i pull out immediately and it instantly goes back to vaccume.

No idea. I'd just trying hooking up an MBC in its place and see if that solves the problem. That way you'll know whether or not to point your finger at the EBC. Ya dig? Lol.

i hooked the actual (waste gate) outlet to the downpipe, as it was just running to atmosphere before, by screwing the two together..since it well.. wasnt.

that seemed to fix teh majority of my random crazy spikes, but i think that the other reason could be that in the AEM tune on the car, through the wastegate section it is set to 99.6, im not sure if that is boost or a percentage of potential output or what but i think if that was changed, that might solve the issue?.. i will find out when i learn this aem setup more on my own i guess.

or its also still the EBC, but i doubt its that since i bolted the pipe to the wastegate fully, i have been having much less issues with spike.

the car does need a actual tuuune, it has a base map which brydon and brando thankfully did for me so i could get it back to the zoo safely.

i plan on learning all this AEM crazyness by the end of summer so i can know what whoever is tuning my car is doing also.

Have you ran it on pure wastegate pressure? If it has no spikes running without the controller on pure wastegate, your controller settings are the problem.

i havent yet. i can look into that, i just dont have a boost guage other than the one that is wired into my other car, and the EBC that is wired into this car.

hopefully i can run it isolated, so that its just wastegate but still measures my vac/boost :O
