Complete EJ22T $300

Post by kimokalihi »

I decided at the last second that instead of rebuilding this motor I was just going to buy a complete EJ20 motor and drop it right in.

I just bought this motor from a local guy who seemed very honest and was a nice guy. He has an SS and a touring wagon and he's got a couple parts car legacy's and his son has an SS that he sold him. He's also had other legacy's I believe that he's sold. He autocrosses his SS and I saw it and it's pretty nice. So I think he knows them pretty well.

He said the engine ran fine when removed from his touring wagon with about 200K miles. He recommended that I replace the timing belt and some hoses and seals and it should be good to go.

When I got the engine I found out a rat or something has chewed into the wiring harness. It looks like the wires are still intact but the jackets have been chewed off a couple wires. Should be an easy fix. Some electrical tape and maybe a little bit of new wire and it should be good to go. Also it appears as if the rat also chewed through a couple hoses. I accidently broke off a nipple on the coolant resevoir when I was unloading the engine so that'll need to be replaced.

Comes with the timing covers too, they're just not in the picture. Comes with alternator and AC as well and VF11 turbo.

I paid $350 for it about a month and a half ago. Been sitting in my garage ever since.

I'm located in Tenino, WA near Olympia, WA and I don't want to ship it.

I thought I had gotten pictures of the wiring harness but I guess I didn't. Sorry.

Thanks, I wasn't sure what the going rate was for these engines. I figured I paid $350 for it before knowing about the wiring damage and so $300 sounded fair.

Buy my engine! And buy my EJ20H engine too! :-D

Yeah you're right. If it was easy to ship I'd do it. I still have to find a shipping company and see how much it costs to ship and how it works.

Strapped to a pallet to a business address it will cost around $300-350. To a residential address at least another $100 more.

OR, the right way to do it is strip it down to the shortblock. A shortblock weighs 100lbs when packaged in a microwave oven box. It will cost about $100 to ship.

In my experience, most of the other random shit is worthless to most people. If you've got the time to strip it, do it and it will sell really easily. Then in the next month or two you can sell off all the other little shit like the manifold and heads, etc for $20 at a time to get another $100 or so out of it. That's what I have always done.

That's a good idea. I've got plenty of time. Well, that is until my engine gets here.

Thanks Matt.

You're welcome. It will also give you spares. That alternator looks brand new on a tired old engine. And many times on these swaps you buy from importers the oil pan shows up all banged up from having the engine sit on it and get shipped from Japan, etc. You can use the Ej22T oil pan on your new engine. The new engine will also have new style crank and cam sensors. Since you are going to use the Ej22T manifold harness, you'll want the old style sensors on the new engine. Etc.

Just wait, someone will blow their motor and need this. Did you try posting it on Craigslist and on NASIOC?

Are the EJ22T cam and crank sensors the same as NA EJ22? Because they're super expensive new from the dealer but the junkyard has loads of sensors for cheap.

I'm definately thinking about stripping this engine now.
