"Threatened" with being arrested and jailed for ca
Moderator: Moderators
In the last three years I have been stopped five times. Once in my Outback(WSP) and four times in my '91 Legacy Sport Sedan(Sheriff, two agencies, WSP). Received one ticket, in the SS, 78 in a 60, lasered and she had me good, guilty. This trooper was very polite and did everything right, a good state employee. In the Outback going 46 down hill, passed a parked WSP. He stopped me and informed me that the speed limit was 30 all the way through town, no ticket, very nice and professional, and now I only go 30 all the way through town. Three other times in the SS, stopped for exceding the speed limit, 45 in 35 and 42 in 35, 55 in 50, all Sheriff. They were all very nice, no tickets. I kind of got the feeling that they really thought they were pulling over a younger driver, and were surprised to find someone older than them. I have only had about five tickets in my whole life, a clean record helps. None of these LEO's had a bad attitude in any way. In every group of people, Catholics, deputies, engineers, casino workers, Subaru mechanics, Protestants, joggers, Subaru owners, teachers, etc., there is always that 3%-4% who are just jerks, and reflect negatively on the whole group.

This issue has less to do with police officers but rather more to do with any position of authority over another human being.

i never felt an air of superiority from a dmv worker, even if they were frustrating to deal with. cops on the other hand seem to make it their first priority to let you know that they can squash you like the insect you are.555BCTurbo wrote:magicmike wrote:

Defending bad cops makes you a bad cop. I know plenty of decent officers. This was simply my time to meet some assholes.
Reddevil, Awaiting new heart, will it ever happen?

my comment was only meant to make you all think about the fact that with authority comes responsibility and not everyone is able to hande that much responsibility. The weak ones surcome to high that is created by power. This applies to all forms of authority or management, not only police officers. I have my own personal feelings about officers and I am keeping them to myself because I know that if i call 911 they will show up to save my ass if need be. That being said, I know very well what to do and what not to do to stay off their radar.

I guess I know what you guys are saying about authority and how it can go to someone's head.
I've seen some guys go pretty crazy over here in Iraq. It pisses me off really bad sometimes - to see a person in power abuse that power and victimize another. I can't do anything about it usually because I am low ranking.
A lot of times they mess with someone else to make their life harder because they feel out of control and helpless in their life so having some power over something makes them like drunk with power. Believe me I've seen some messed up stuff.

Can we start a "bullshit douchebag cops" rant? I have a really good one!!
oh, and like Mike said. Its the power trip factor, I deal with it all the time with the officials running the show at the racetrack.
edit: I guess I shouldn't clump all cops/rangers etc.. together some are actually great people trying to do the right thing.
