so on startup i'm having a lean issue. right when i start it up the car runs fine, 10 seconds later it goes real lean and starts to buck and sputter then 30 seconds to a minute later the o2 starts its cycling from rich to lean back and forth and the car starts to run spectacularly.
my o2 is only a month or so old so i cant see it having gone bad already. isnt it normal for it to take a minute or 2 for the o2 to warm up?
my idle in park or neutral is rough too and the a/f goes lean as well and the o2 stops cycling but in drive the idle is silky smooth and the o2 cycles back and forth. i'm worried that the rough idling in park might cause issues with e-tests.
any ideas? i did do an ecu reset after getting a good maf. or atleast attempted one i'm not sure if they ever work.
other than that the car runs better than it ever has, i like that i have to floor it for max boost to kick in i always hated ptfb, it made me learn to drive without ever going past half throttle which messed everything up whenever i drove another car.
thanks

Basically Mike at Revtronix looked at my cold data logging and saw the O2 wasn't getting low enough (~0.18V instead of ~0V) which is the problem. He also stated they are working on a chip update to fix the cold/lean issue and something else for the BSC oscillation.
It took several hundred miles of driving for my idling issues to go away. It use to 'bounce' often after idling for ~30 seconds or more, swining several hundred RPM. Now for the most part it's rock stable around 650 rpm

alright thats cool its nothing i cant live with but i read the posts on the revtrinix forum and posted under you that i was having the same issue with a new o2.
thanks for the link. and i figured over time alot of little issues will clean up due to the fact that its an obd 1 ecu that doesnt learn particularly fast.

it is interesting!
i've done my first couple of full throttle runs finally and in normal mode hitting 13-14 psi the tires chirp nicely when almost flooring it off the line on dry pavement i cant wait til i try power mode out. its definitely faster than when i had it running 15 psi with stock computer, injectors, maf and meth injection. and that had me happy so now i'm happier!
only issue is the lean cold startup but it only lasts a minute and it seems to be getting better very slowly, i dono maybe it'll fix itself.
on another note it took something like 8 good long full throttle runs going from like 50 to 100 on the highway to get the boost to hit 13-14psi cuz at first it was only hitting 10 and city driving wasnt enough for the ecu to adjust the boost. now if i pin it off a light it'll hit 13 pretty fast and keep it there till i let go.
oh yeah and i'm gettin about 80km more to a tank in the city!! it might be due to the fact that one of my stock injectors was leaky but now i'm getting about 480 km to the tank and that includes having spilt some fuel when changing the fuel pump and lots of aggressive full thorttle runs whereas i used to get 400 maybe a bit more if i was reeealy nice to the car.

wait wait wait, PER 50L ? I usually get 350km per 52L if I am lucky. That is like maybe 1 or 2 full throttle runs for 1 - 5 seconds... Did you find any differences with a new o2 sensor. Grr I am going to do my o2 sensor, then my MAF if the o2 makes no difference.

well before i put the chip in in the city i was getting 400 km to probably 55 l or something our tanks hold pretty much 60 and i could get 400 when the needle was at the empty line but the car ran fine without any sputtering so i assume i had about 5 or so litres left.
i havent run a tank that empty yet on the chip but i'm at 300 km and the needle isnt even half way past half and three quarters of a tank and it would usually be at the three quarter mark so its deefinitely much better.
i'm stoked to see what i'll get highway driving cuz i used to get a good 700 on pure highway if i was nice. more like 600 or 650 if i was being aggressive and driving fast.
an old worn out o2 will cause issues with gas mileage, a dirty maf will too old worn plugs will too. really old wires might but its rare. a/c windows down lights and stereos will all also contribute. my big issue was a leaky injector. everytime i would stop the car all the fuel pressure would leak out into one cylilnder so basically pouring fuel in a cylinder. but i had an obviously long crank time because of this, how long does your car crank before starting?

Just got my engine started for the first time after doing all the crap listed in my build. After having started it like 6-7 times now i have noticed dramatic improvment in the idle issue it had at first. Also seems the ecu is getting really good at keeping the afr steady,i am amazed at how well its all working so far, however i havnt pushed it yet and dont plan to for a while.

Just installed my Stage 2 TD04 chip (but I'm using a VF39). So far, it idles like shit and seems to run a little lean while cruising around in any given gear. This is however the updated chip, so hopefully after a few more startups the issues will resolve themselves. I'll post back here with any updates I have.

Yes I'm using an MBC.
I've put about 35 miles on it so far and the idle is definitely getting better along with the driveability of the car. Hopefully it continues down this path.

Gotcha, if I can't get the BCS to work with my 6lb wastegate with the next updated map then I might drop my VF=8 back on with the MBC and see what happens.
As of right now I only have three major issues with the first-gen stage 2:
a) the BCS settings don't work with my 6lb TD04 after 2 weeks of driving it was still oscillating
b) their is a strange tendency to hiccup when going into boost under load and then lifting the throttle lightly - only under certain circumstances like - Zero Throttle -> partial or full boost -> level off or lift = hiccup!
c) when not fully warmed up it runs lean under very light throttle settings
The AFR's are staying at 11.3-11.5 at WOT, but the EGT's climb pretty good in 4th and 5th gears.
Fuel mileage last tank was over 21mpg.
Basically, I really like it, but I need to get the problems worked out. I did some logging yesterday, I will try to get some results posted soon.

Mike at Revtronix posted on their forum that a Stage 2 update is nearing completion.
In addition, last night I pulled a throttle body off of one of my other 22T's and put that on the car. I did this in case my TPS was acting up and making minor tuning issues worse, as I really didn't hear other people posting with the same symptoms.
After an ECU reset, I have put 50mi on it. So far, I'm sure the car is smoother, so I think that my TPS was degrading a little. I have not tried higher boost yet, I'm waiting for the ECU to re-learn a bit.
Also, a couple weeks ago I installed a couple of oil catches on the intake return lines, and the PCV one seems to be stopping quite a bit of blow-by. Enough to coat the TMIC over time, and screw with the MAF, anyhow.
I cleaned out the TMIC and will do it again soon, as I noticed that my turbo outlet is still squeaky clean, but the TB intake had oil residue. That tells me that the catches are working, and that the IC is still being purged of residue.
That and some improved ducting should help my EGT's.
Mike mentioned that 1700F at the port is not over the top, but either running 92oct or going to 11.2 AFR would make me feel better. I think I will go a little richer just to be nice to this old motor.....

Hmmm I'll be interested to see what the update consists of. He sold me a Stage 2 chip with the changes that he 'figured' he would be making. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I am having very similar results, other than the exhaust temps, but thats only because i have no means to measure that.I must say that it is getting better - but quite slowly.

Yeah, I haven't tried to do any full boost runs yet. I did floor it in third gear when I was at about 2500 RPM, but then I let off because the car sounded kind of funny. I think it may be because the chip is designed to burn fuel more efficiently so the exhaust sounded a bit 'airy' if that makes any sense. Maybe I'll try a full throttle run on my way to work today and get back to you guys a little later.

Aaron, I'll tell you what - when I was running the MBC with it up until last night, the WOT sound was fantastic. Definitely more advanced than the stock setup, at 5000rpm the exhaust comes alive!
Once I get all the issues sorted and it's running where I want, I'll try to get some video or something.
Edit: gijonas - may I recommend that you get both a EGT and AFR setup that you can log as well as instrument? Getting the LC-1 wideband was long overdue for me, and now I wish that I had bought an EGT setup with output to a computer as well.

Hahaha ok, that must have been what it was! I'm just not used to my car having......tuned power! HA! It definitely sounded nice and alive, not bad at all. It just caught me off guard, so I instantly let off.
