air bag

Post by uberoo »

Im short and oddly proportioned. My legs are shorter and my torso/arms. So to get full pressure on the pedals I have to sit really close to the airbag. Can I disable the air bag by simply pulling the fuse or would it ignite at a bad time?Or do I have to unplug the airbag computer as well? Thanks.

If you don't mind the airbag light always on, just unplug the airbag... follow the bright yellow wires/connectors.

So how can I disable the airbag without the light being on all the time,And no possible way it would ignite?

You can't. The only way to keep the light off is to pull the actual bulb. Check out my build thread (see sig) for how I did it.

To disable the bag, you need to get some security torx bits (with the hole in the middle) to remove the airbag, then you can just pull the plug on it. If you pull the one plug under the column, you will lose the horn and cruise control also. You could pull the plugs from the controller under the console too.

If your really worried about it, you can even pull the charge canister from the assembly after that.

The controller is under the center counsil(ie where the handbrake is)? If so I will unplug it when I put in my new shoulder belt.

The controller is under the console under the radio. Notice how the center console rises as it moves forward of the shifter? That's clearance for the controller. Again I refer to my build thread, look for the pics of my WRX shifter install.

The plugs on the airbag controller are very difficult to work with. Be warned they might even need special tools to disengage them.

Duct tape can also be used to block the bulb discreetly: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?p=294280
