WTB Calsonic Compressor (91-93 non AWD or 92-93 AWD)
I have a 93 with a seized compressor. Looking to get a new one. I think Calsonic compressor from 91-93 legacy that is not AWD should work. Also Calsonic compressor from 92 and 93 AWD should work.
91 AWD will not work.
91 AWD will not work.
Why won't the 91 AWD work?
It may not be a big deal.....but chances are if you go with a used compressor, you will be replacing it again. Subaru does sell a new compressor. i ended up buying one after going through 3 used compressors.

I assume it won't work because its a different part. If you go through the posts on the forum there is mention of it. The Calsonics used in 90-91 are different from 92+. Its seems they made the transition in 91 to the new design, but only on the non AWD cars. If you look the part up on Rockauto you can view what years shared the same part. 92-93 AWD and 91-93 FWD.
I was wondering about the failure rate of the used compressor. But I think I will go this route for now.

chochocho - What do you mean when you say it didn't work? All Calsonic compressors from 90 to 93 should be interchangeable.
1990 models came with 73011AA030. This supercedes to 73008AA710.
1991 models came with 73011AA031. This also supercedes to 73008AA710.
1992 and 1993 models came with 73011AA090. When you punch this into the Subaru parts catalog, it comes back with a message telling you to use part number 73008AA710.
As far as I know there was no distinction between FWD and AWD. I also know I've used both 73011AA031 and 73011AA090 on my 93.
Sorry, I don't really mean to hijack the thread. glennda5id, if you have any interest in a newly remanufactured compressor instead, shoot me a PM.

vrg3 - just my experience with my compressor install experience.
the 1991 calsonic model and the 1992 model are similar but are not the same. the location of the line connections are different.
what i ended up doing was getting a new compressor for a 91 legacy ss from the local dealership that matched the price of an online dealer. what i ordered came with the lines as well as the compressor itself.
i do not believe it came with the gaskets so that is to be ordered separately.
that is interesting though. i had a hell of a time with the compressor.......but it's all good now.

Huh. Weird. All the Calsonic compressors I've installed seemed to be pretty much the same. I may not have ever compared them side-by-side though. Maybe the later-model hoses can fit the early-model compressors but not vice versa.

vrg3 - i took a picture. see the attached.

i think 3rd or 4th post.
i also tried getting an aftermarket one supposedly that would fit for both calsonic, and then zexel...neither one of them fit either. it had the 92 compressor configuration. (returning it was a whole another story)
thought i had it figured out but i am stumped. well, i hope i do not need to upgrade mines anytime soon.

Woah, I had no idea -- that's not what the 73011AA031 I put on my car looked like. It does look kind of plausible that the hoses might be made to work, but it's also plausible that the interchangeability would only go one way.
