OK so I'm not too proud to say that I have no clue about suspension componants. I've been reading all the posts in the sticky and I think I need an even more stepped back explanation. Could someone please identify all of the parts? As I read through I hear, struts, springs, perches, and top hats. I read through this stuff and cannopt get a clear picture of what the hell I need lol. I understand that you have a strut that sits inside the spring and that the perches and top hats have something to do with the mounting at the top but I'm still confused.
I only ask because I'm going to start to browse around for some oem wrx parts over on nabisco and I'd like to know what would fit and what I'd need before hand. I'd be ok with the same ride height or if it was lowered like an inch or so.

I've done pretty well with cheap. I'd rather have a more expensive suspension but it works for me.
Lets see:
1st set of 04 sti suspension : $500
ALK: $200
20mm front swaybar: $50
18mm rear swaybar and stuff: $100
Endlinks: $200
Camber bolts: $10 used
That got me a pretty fun setup.
For the new car I bought a fresh set of sit suspension for $140 and got some swaybars in exchange for labor. It's really great with a lot of negative camber up front.

What is ALK again? I forget.
Do you have a non turbo car? I thought the SS comes with 18mm or 19mm swaybars to begin with?

this is about as cheap as you can get as far as struts only go

i, like yourself knew nothing before i started this, but with help from the board and just going at it, it's about as easy as changing brake pads.
once you get it apart, it is really simple.
good luck

Anti-Lift Kit. Basically it helps stop the front end of your car from dipping in under hard braking/cornering and from lifting at launches. I believe it also adds some positive caster, which helps with turn in.kimokalihi wrote:What is ALK again? I forget.

Also, his car was non-turbo, so he upgraded to WRX and SS parts. The SS comes with 18mm swaybars front and rear.

It's actually the opposite of this. The stock suspension geometry has anti-dive geometry built into it. The anti-lift kit removes some of this which helps keep the front end from lifting under acceleration. In theory there should be some more dive under braking, however I don't have an ALK, and can not comment with any direct experience.asc_up wrote:Anti-Lift Kit. The ALK also does add caster, which in turn add dynamic camber during corning.
