New guy from Columbus hoping to give SS a 2nd chance at life

Post by Kecksauce »

Hey everyone! I'm Keck and I've been lurking around this forum for a month or so now just checking things out and doing some reading. I just picked up a 93 SS that looks to have been somewhat neglected. I have high hopes of having it 100% road ready come late fall and would really like to hit some Rally-X events with it.

I haven't had much time to tear through the car yet due to the fact that I'm leaving for a training deployment this weekend, but so far as I can tell the only mods are: a Saab 900 intercooler, GReddy Type-S bov, unknown brand headers, a TD05 16G and some home-brew turbo back exhaust. I've already addressed some minor problems and cleaned the car up a bit, but I have some work cut out for myself. I'll be looking to some of you guys for help!

I snapped a few shots of the Legacy with my daily driver Impreza, so I hope you enjoy.

Thank you sir, I'm happy to be here! So far it looks like I need to replace both front ball joints and wheel bearings, fix several rust spots on the doors, fenders and trunk lid, readjust the clutch cable, all four corners need pads and rotors, the turbo needs replaced or rebuilt because I think the seals are shot, fuel pump/filter, new shocks/struts, brake power booster and the crank pulley looks warped or bent because it wobbles pretty good when the engine is running.

The car sat for the past 5 years so it understandably has the typical issues of a 16 year old car. The previous owner though the center diff was bad and let it go for cheap but I don't think that's the case. He also said that it didn't seem to make very much boost, but after some digging I found that the blow off valve was set to full hard. After softening that up the car pulls 7-8 pounds fairly nicely.

It's a project I'm looking forward to getting underway and it will be sweet once it's all back together.

Both look great, but the wagon is HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to see yet another person realizing the true value of these old turbo Subarus! Keep up the good work and don't be afraid to ask what you think are dumb questions either. There's likely a good answer for your question.

That car is in pretty darn good shape. Good luck!

Funny, my trunk had rusted in that exact same spot.
