So my 94 turbo seemed perfect after some recent repairs, until today. Seems to be a new problem. When I 1/4 throttle all is well, and 99% ot the time the same at WOT. However when in the in between throttle positions I hear a loud clunking from the lower center by the firewall(ish). This all started today in traffic that I was trying to avoid. Once I heavily throttled it began, and as it did it the rpm's were strange and kind of bouncing around as if it could not choose a proper gear.. I do NOT have a working speedo, however i never have so I know this is not the issue. Has anyone else ever incountered this issue? If so , what were your conclusions. I am in the process of starting a new business, so this is exactly the wrong time for this to happen!!

First tell us that you have checked all the obvious.Fluid level in trans (both of them) and looked for anything loose.

Perhaps loose flexplate bolts?

MT or AT? By your description I'm assuming AT, but that would help diagnose...

fluids are proper levels changed recently. AT. This sounds and feels like when The only other AT car I had (98 ford craptor) lost its transmission. It slowly clunked more and more, as it screwed up shifts to the point of its death. Nothing loose that I see, or feel. It sounds strange but it almost sounds/feels like something to do with the electronics in the tranny.

So upon further looking, I think it has nothing to do with the tranny. As it idles it hesitates/chokes for a split second about once every 30 seconds. But only as soon as it gets into the normal temp range. Could this be why it was fine leaving work and progressivly worsened on the ride home? I hate to do it, but I am stumped and may be bringing it in to a subaru rally car builder to let him check it out. I just do not want to pay when I always have done my own work. Any other Ideas???

And the awnser is a intermittent misfire on cylinder one and occasionally number two. Exploding just before the turbo! Out to fix it now!

I was going to say it didn't sound like it was firing on all cylinders! damn I'm good :)

Yup cyl. 1 again! This is the 2nd time i have had problems with it. But the good news is that I had a defective plug wire, so I am on my way to the parts store to demand an exchange. They are less than five months old, and only like 5,000 miles if that!

Dont buy crappy wires!

I put like $7000 into my build and i am using factory NGK wires off a 17 year old car with no problems.

I never use crappy anything. Oem is always best for a virtually stock car. I had moisture get to the one on cyl 1. Fixed now and back to running perfect!
