clutch pedal returns half way

Post by Skruyd »

I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem with their clutch pedal only retuning half way. It seems that it's just the spring or something isn't right. The master cylinder isn't leaking and returns fully. Just not the pedal.

Asking about it because I'm looking in to getting a WOT box and I need to use the switch that lets the cruise control know that the pedal is up.

Appreciate it XD

That clutch pedal return spring is a fairly common failure... thats probably what it is. I've replaced it twice and finally realized on the third one that the snap-back is what brakes them. I added a bolt with a little rubber bumper where my clutch safety switch should be. Been fine for 60k this go-round.

Mine was like that forever until I replaced the clutch... after that, the pedal worked as advertised.

One of those clutch springs is on 'vendor backorder' -- when I tried getting them from the dealer a few months ago.

How would the clutch effect the pedal return in a turbo car? I thought it was more the clutch return spring, springs on the clutch pedal and the master cylinder which had more effect.

Got me... never touched the pedals or spring, but it used to hang up midway, right above the clutch engagement point, then I replaced clutch & pressure plate, and the pedal now comes back full travel every time.

That return spring is only there to keep slack out of the clutch fork. Without the spring the fork could move slightly back.

In the real world with everything else working correctly, that spring really doesn't do shit.

My pedal did the same thing until I replaced the clutch / pressure plate.
