- 134,xxx on Body/Interior
- 150,000 on EJ22e (NA/non-turbo) engine (out my wagon)
- 97,000 on Automatic transmission – non-turbo (non-documented miles)
- 1990 ECU
- 1993 Turbo TCU (the ’90 TCU gave me tranny error code – see HERE)
The car was purchased with a broken transmission. The turbo engine was removed for turbo swap and replaced w/the ’90’s EJ22e; the transmission was replaced w/a non-turbo version as well from a ’90 or ’91 w/the 4.11. Replaced the rear diff w/a 4.11, too, from my ’90 and it has about 140K (upgraded 2 years ago).
Car runs well and no CELs. No leaks that I’m aware of. If we hadn’t already got one for the step-kids, I’d keep it and let them drive it….if that tells you anything…and yes, I do (for the most part) like my step-sons.

I was getting 21-City/28-Hwy MPG w/this tranny/engine combo in my ’90 wagon; this should be similar.
De-Turbo mods:
- NA crossmember to get exhaust to fit (still have turbo version)
- NA rear brakes – calipers/rotors
- NA engine
- NA tranny
- Still has the Turbo sensors wiring in place; minus the sensors.
Options:
- Cold AC (retrofitted w/R-134)
- Power Windows/Locks/Mirrors
- Sunroof - (just found it leaks!)
- Cruise Control
- ’91 Stereo w/input jack for IPod
- ABS
- AWD
- Driver's side Airbag
- Rear Defroster/Defogger
- Tilt Wheel
Maintenance:
Done @ 134,000 when engine was put back in:
o Timing belt, incl. pulleys and water pump
o Oil and filter
o Air Filter
o Coolant/Anti-freeze including Thermostat
o Transmission fluid replaced (not flushed)
o Brake fluid replaced
o Front differential fluid replaced
o Separator plate (aka “rear main seal retainer”)
Done within last 5-10,000 miles
o Front Brakes (previous owner)
o Spark plugs and wires
o Tires are 75% or better BF Goodrich Touring T/A
Maintenance it may need:
- Check alignment as I undid strut bolts during tranny swap (I did mark ‘em 1st). It drives straight down the road, but steering wheel is little bit off-center.
- Front struts are getting soft – rears feel fine
- Re-seal the sunroof or just seal it shut
- Fix antenna
- Balance tires - a little vibration @ 60MPH
Clear Title in my name. A Car Fax available via email.
The Exterior has numerous dings/dents and 3-4 rust spots -see pics. One wheel has paint flaking off, and the rear spoiler was repainted. The driver's side door was replaced and repainted by the previous owner and the paint color is a shade off. The door must be shut firmly to fully close and if the window is raised after shutting the door it will catch on the rubber trim (still trying to fix!), otherwise it works normally.
All glass is good -no cracks.
The Interior has a hole in the driver's seat, the foam is less firm than the passenger seat, and there a few spots/stains on the seats. One of the dash vents is semi-functional, but the other 4 work OK. A couple of knobs are missing from the stereo and the driver's side visor was replaced w/a vinyl one vs. the stock cloth. In the trunk, one cover is missing and a couple other panels are loose - missing the plastic hold-down plugs.
At last check, everything works except the power antenna; I still get a reception, so didn't bother fixing it. I have an extra if wanted.
