N/A Muffler Recommendations

Post by suba »

I know this topic has been discussed before, but when I search I mainly find info about turbo cars.

Those of us not fortunate enough to have the neat little noisemaker in the exhaust flow still need mufflers too! I have a completely stock exhaust combined with a very very shot muffler, so needless to say it's time to spend some money, but as little as possible of course.

Anyone have any recommendations on inexpensive mufflers, (I have to get it installed most likely since I have no tools at my disposal at the moment)? My current options that I'm considering are the generic stock replacement (about $90 installed) or a flowmaster 40 or 50 series (about $130 installed). I'm leaning towards the flowmaster mainly due to much better quality materials (I really don't want to replace it again in a year if I can help it).

Goals are as follows:
1)Low cost
2)Keep nice Subaru sound
3)Not annoyingly loud or droning

Any thoughts, recommendations, sound bytes, bitching, moaning or ranting would be appreciated.

Thursh Turbo Muffler :) I have one on my car. Thing is a little loud when it's cold, but when it's warmed up it's quiet. I have the main cat, and 2.5" stainless all the way back to it..

Went with the Flowmaster (40 series). Initial impressions: sweet! nice quiet idle, not too loud in cruise or high rpm but a nice rumble and deep tone.

Video or audio shortly, as soon as I find a decent quality recording device.
