The new stuff went on perfectly, and everything was OEM. All the exhaust
pieces lined up, factory steel gaskets used - hell even the bolts to bolt it
all together were all dealer supplied!
What I dont understand and never have is why you need the custom shaped
gasket on a stock exhaust system (at least till the turbo...)

The only reason for the custom gasket was the warpage of the manifold in the
first place. Initially we thought it was alignment problems since the
furthest thing from our minds was that a cast manifold had warped. This was
confirmed when the new manifold arrived. The gap to the up-pipe was nearly
1.5" at it's wides point
I figured the reason was a poorly designed manifold, but nobody else has
ever had the problem. Makes me wonder what the heck to do about it.
Timing and fuel pump are the biggest leads...
