alirght that sounds easy enough to do if it dosent fit properly.

I ended up ordering 4 new kyb gr-2 shocks so hopefully that get rid of most of the nosie and smooths out the ride.

soon enough I will pick up that strut brace.

thanks for the info

YW! :D

Oh, if you haven't done so yet, you might want to read the threads about the KYB GR-2 struts. The struts will make your front end noticeably higher than it sits now. Lowering springs or springs from select Imprezas will take care of that.

Oh, two more things--Welcome to Legacy Central! And, you've got a nice-looking bc!

From what I have read the factory impreza springs will lower my car about an inch, if I go with aftermarket lower springs it will be lowering my car about 2 inches, and I can't go 2 inches lower seeing as my wheels already rub

does anyone make a stiffer stock hight spring?

Is there any way to sort of lift the car back up a hair if I were to put the h&r lowering springs?

Thanks for the help

It may be a bit challenging to figure out what kind of drop you'll need because from the posts of others on this Board, we've had different results when installing the GR-2s.

For me, when installing them on my '93 N/A bc with the stock springs and Bridgestone RE-92 205/55 16 tires on wrx wheels, I had about a 4-1/2" and 3-3/4" gap (I don't recall which side had the bigger gap) from the top of my front tires to the bottom of wheel well fender. Before installing the GR-2s, the wheel gap was about 1-1/4" on stock springs. After installing Whiteline control springs, the gap was about 1-3/4".

So, installing the GR-2s lifted the front end and the lowering springs brought them back down to near the original height but it was still higher than when in stock condition.

On my '93 ss with Whiteline control springs and 205/55 16 RE-92s with about 4/32" tread left, the gaps between the top of the tires and bottom of the wheel well fender: front = 1-5/8"; rear = 1-1/4".

On my '94 TW with Whiteline control springs, KYB AGX springs, stock 195/60 15 tires, wheel gap in front is 1-1/4" and rear is 3/4". If I installed the 16" tires, the gaps should even be less.

From the pics of your car it seems like the offset on your wheels is about 40-45 mm? If so, then, yes you will have more challenges when you bring your car's ride height down because, in layman's terms, your tires are sticking out further than they should be. Also going beyond 48 mm offset for 17" wheels will degrade your handling as well as put extra strain on your wheel bearings.

As for lifting up your car "a hair" after installing H&R springs, it depends what you mean by "a hair." You could install spacers between the top perch and the underside of the car's body but you can't install too thick of a spacer or you won't be able to get the nuts onto the struts' mounting bolts.

As for the Impreza springs, yes, they will fit but keep in mind that the Legacy is a bigger car than the Impreza and the Impreza springs were not designed to carry as much weight, especially in the back. I carry passengers and other loads in the trunk so for me Impreza springs can become a safety issue.

Thanks

and thanks for all the info

okay so I just looked my tires are 215/40 so they are a tad wide.

So right now I'm hopin the gr2 will lift my car up a little first seeing as my struts are pretty worn. Then I think I'm gona go with the h&r springs to being it back down a little. Seeing as the h&r are a lot stiffer then stock I'm hoping this should eliminate the rubbing

does this seem like a good plan? Think it will work or am I in over my head

Very probably in your case, the wheel offset (not width of tires) would be key as to whether or not you end up with any interference with the fenders.
