Videos from world speed record

Post by jefferson »

I don't know how to do the link to these videos, but someone that does may be able to link them up.

I found 6 videos on you tube that are all in japanese, but they are very good. They all have to do with the 100,000 km world record setting event. Lots of behind the scenes stuff and Subaru's flying by at full song. They sound awesome.

To find the videos go to youtube and search (Subaru Legacy world speed record) and you will find them. The one consists of 3 parts and one other has 2 parts to it. The last one is one unto itself. Well worth watching.

NICE! Good find... I always wondered why there wasn't video of this. Just got posted in June.

Freeze part 2 at 1:49 you can see that under the aero covers are the stock Legacy Turbo rims.

I love the sound of them going past the camera wide open & turbo screaming :D

Thanks Josh.

I noticed the wheels too. I always wondered what they used. Now we know.

Did you notice the politically incorrect item above the driver in the red suit being interviewed? Maybe it kept them revved up for the driving.

I was surprised the drivers suits and helmet matched the color of the car they drove. Eliminates any confusion I guess.

I have even done my grill like the record setting cars, minus the logo in the center though. I really didn't like it as well as the regular grill, but it has really grown on me, and it looks different from everything else out there. Now for some side skirts.

Jeff - I think that grill looks really good, especially along with those wheels

I don't offhand understand the cooling process though. Radiator vented differently on these cars?

Was that a consideration for you when you made your grill solid?

It was something I thought about so I blocked the grill off with some temporary stuff to see how it did. It wasn't summertime, but it did fine and I have had no issues with it this summer with the finished grill. I have made a cooling plate for the top of the radiator and sealed the edges of the radiator near the top where there were gaps for air to bypass the radiator. Now any air that enters the front of the car has to go through the radiator. I just wish Missouri would let us get by with 1 plate on the cars. The plate on the front looks bad and blocks airflow besides. I am pretty anal about keeping the condenser and radiator clean, even spending alot of time removing rocks etc. with a pick and opening up damaged fins. It all helps.

The grille block is to improve aero. The lower inlet in most cars is more than enough cooling, but concessions to customers' outdated thinking and lack of creativity among too many automotive designers demand outdated looks like grilles that harken back to the Edwardian era. In some cases, blocking the upper grille can improve cooling. I wish they showed if the undercarriage was covered and how extensively as I'd like to imitate it for the wagon to go with the grille block, radiator ducting through the hood low-pressure zone, and roof extension spoiler. Also notice that there are no side mirrors and the side skirts divert air away from the rear tires.
