Stock radio question

Post by gage006 »

I don't know much about the stock radio and my searching didn't come up with much so sorry if this is a stupid question.

Can I replace my stock deck with no aux in with a stock one WITH aux in and still keep the stock CD player?

I have no desire to go aftermarket and attract potential thieves to my car when the stock system fits my needs, it's just that cassette adapters are garbage and keep breaking on me.

you can swap ANYTHING in as long as you wire the harness in. Meaning ... if you want to put a Dodge Viper radio in and you get the harness you could. Now ... to be more realistic, there are VERY few makes that put a factory stereo in that has the aux out. Except the last couple years. So your better off just going with an afternarket stereo. Aftermarker stereo usually have a much higher output of watts per channel as well so you get a better/louder sound out of your speakers.

I personally never leave the factory stereo in unless it's a higher end car which tend to use JBL, BOSE or Harman Kardon

I hope that helps ... if not ask me more ... I used to own a shop called Car Tunes that specialized in audio and bolt on performance

I think there are some legacy oem radios floating around out there with the input jack and able to merge with the add on oem cd player. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

no your right ... you can add the factory tape deck/cd player to most factory deck but the plugs are completely proprietary.

And yes, as MP3 player got more popular, some of the newer subaru's came with an available stereo upgrade with a line in for that sort of thing. Most of them came with decent sounding Harman Kardon speakers as well.

I don't think you guys understood what I was asking.

I have the stock stereo with the cd player and no aux in.

If I get one of the following with the aux in, can I hook up the cd player to it?

I have not found a factory CD player that still works with a factory AUX-in head unit. I have tried quite a few combos too.

This thread may help you.

I believe the jack on the back of a pre-facelift (AUX-in) headunit is for an optional equalizer, not a CD player.
