Spoiler LED wires

Post by Josh Colombo »

I was wondering if anyone can tell me which wire is positive and negative for the spoiler LED. I don't really want to hook them up backwards and blow the LED's. The connector got cut off, so all I have is pigtail ends.

I think the colors I have are green with black stripe, and white with black stripe.

Any help on the subject would be much appreciated.

Check it with a volmeter... If by touching the red testing wire to one of the two

wire of the car and the black testing wire to the frame of the car (no paint)

gives you 12v reading on the voltmeter... There's your positive.

Aren't the wire colour of the LED and the car the same??? If you open up the

LED, you should be able to see wich one is the ground (negative).

Not sure I follow you. I'd have to have one of the leads hooked up to a 12v source for that to work.....but it still doesn't solve my prob, because I'm still putting 12v through the LED's, and don't want to fry 'em.....the voltmeter is just an added resistive circuit in the line.....

Mate, Diodes don't conduct electricity if hooked up backwards, they
block the electricity flow when wired backwards.
It's apart of their design.
It won't Blow them up.

just hook up the wires and see if the LED's light up, if they don't
then guess what - you have the negative and poostive backwards.

simple.

If it is a bought spoiler w/LED lights it is already made for 12V. :-)

ok......I'll just hook the sucker up......this is what I had learned and thought.....but it was mentioned they could blow.....so I wanted to be extra careful.

Hooked it up......didn't matter which was which, didn't blow the light. Ended up being white w/ black stripe was ground, and green w/ black stripe was pos.

It looks pretty good.....had to be a contorsionist to get inside the back there and connect to the existing brake light setup.

I would be careful reversing the polarity on something this
expensive all diodes have a reverse breakdown voltage and this is
usually only a few volts with an LED.
