crank pulley- seriously, WTF
long story short, noticed some wobble from the crank pulley. the bolt was loose and the woodruff key chewed into the pulley. decided i would do the timing belt, waterpump and seals while i had the car apart. but i cant get the crank sprocket off(ive searched and checked the haynes manual, multiple times).
the woodruff key in the crank looks like it fused the sprocket and crank together. the crank bolt hole also has 2 sets of threads, so im thinking the previous owner tried to fix it, f'ed it up and helicoiled it. is there any way to get it off or is my crank fugged?

Get a pic on here. Need to see it to help figure out a solution better. I'd say you need to chisel out the woodruff key first. That should be soft steel vs the hard crank.

since it has a wobble it is probably on a little off kilter. spin the engine and see if you can find where it is out of true then hit that area with a hammer to knock it straight. that might get it to loosen up a bit. otherwise i would second the slide hammer suggestion.

I think he is asking how to get the crank belt sproket gear off. Sounds to me like he already got the master pulley off.206er wrote:since it has a wobble it is probably on a little off kilter. spin the engine and see if you can find where it is out of true then hit that area with a hammer to knock it straight. that might get it to loosen up a bit. otherwise i would second the slide hammer suggestion.

If that's the case, he's referring to it as a pulley but it's a gear.

He clearly needs to take the crank sprocket off.mavx wrote:i cant get the crank sprocket off(ive searched and checked the haynes manual, multiple times).
