stripped stud...

Post by Brian White »

What a PITA. I had a slow leak in my left rear tire
yesterday, so I pumped it up and got the car home.
This morning, I go to put the spare on so I can go get
the tire fixed and what did I find while removing the
tire? A stripped stud. Damn! So I posted on the
i-Club but I was hoping you guys would have some extra
information for me. I've already got the new stud and
a new lugnut. Part number 28055AA002 for the stud,
for future reference. I'm just wondering how easy
it'll be to replace this damn thing. I was told I'd
need to remove the caliper and rotor and hammer out
the stripped stud. It seems fairly straightforward,
but I'm worried about the parking brake pads/system
getting in the way. I'd rather keep this as simple as
possible. Any thoughts or suggestions would be a
great help. Thanks in advance.

I got the same problem. One bad stud came with my recent purchase of
the Legacy but the other happened while doing the front brakes. I
got one bad stud on front and another on the back. When I looked, it
didn't seem that there was enough clearance to get the stud backed
out of the front hubs with out doing other crap. The rear brakes
(and stud) are for later this summer.

Is it really as easy as whacking it out? And once its out how do you
press the new one in...with a big C-clamp maybe?

Any information anyone has would be helpful.
