Question about sti hard rubber bushings

Post by jefferson »

I got everything I need to put the later lateral links on the rear of my car. the bushings are pretty bad and I really didn't want to do a set of the urethane bushings because of the nvh issue. My Subaru performance catalogue shows a set of bushings that appear to be trailing link and 8 lateral link bushings. In the application chart all they show is trailing link bushings and from all the digging I have done Subaru doesn't have a clue which part number is the lateral link bushing.

Does anyone here have any knowledge or experience they would like to share? My dealer said he would order the parts and send back what is wrong, but I would like to speed up the process.

EDIT: Reading comprehension fail for me again. I initially had this all written out as just factory bushing part numbers, but realized you were looking for STi bushings, so I went back and edited accordingly.

There's some discrepancy between the part numbers for a 91 SS and for a 2nd-gen Impreza, so there is a possibility that the STi bushings will not fit.

The outer bushings that attach to the rear knuckle should be part number B0220FE020, to replace factory number 20251AA000. On the 91 Legacy, they're the same front and rear, but on a 2nd-gen Impreza, the rear one is 20251AA040. Since the STi part number replaces all 4 of those bushings, it should be safe to say that they should work for the 91 Legacy, but I can't be sure 100%.

The inner bushings that attach to the rear subframe are different between front and rear lateral links. The number for the front lateral link should be B0220FE030, to replace 20251AA010; you'll need 2 for the whole car.

The same inner bushings for the rear lateral links are part number B0220FE040. Now, the 2nd-gen Impreza lists that bushing as 20251AA061 factory while it is listed as 20251AA021 factory for a 91 Legacy, so again, I can't be sure 100% that the STi bushing will fit your car. Again, you'll need 2 for the whole car.

Keep in mind, these bushings do have to be pressed in... you can't push them in with just elbow grease, especially if they're harder STi bushings. So expect a lot of work to swap out all 8 bushings.

I will tell you that the STi bushings are as hard or harder then the poly bushings. Installing the sti trailing bushings SUCK ass.

I'd recommend the poly bushings with a split design where you put each side in separately. much easier install.

I'n not aware of any split bushing designs for the lateral link. Do you know of some?

For the lateral links....you're right...no split ushings. For the trailing link there is though.

After my dealer ordering in one of every part number, I have come up with the numbers for the later rear lateral link. I am not sure of the early ones that are on the 91 and 92.

The part that ends in 020 is the bushing for the outer end of the rear lateral link. The other bushing that fits the inside end is the 040 part number. I suspect that the front lateral link will take the same numbers, but I won't know until I take it out and check things. I will update when I find out for sure.

After going over the info from above it seems to jive. The only other lateral link bushing that they had was one for a smaller bolt. The other 2 part numbers were trailing arm bushings. I wonder why they list them all as trailing arm bushings?
