Suggestions?

Post by marshall »

Hello everyone,

Well I'm new to this board, but I defiantly have some questions for all of you.

I am the owner of a 99 Legacy Brighton, I have been wanting to do some suspension upgrades and possibly a motor swap or turbo the existing motor. I have tried to find someone who has done modifications to my year and a wagon, to no avail.

So here it is... Help...Please... Is there a reason that no one has modified my year? Any Ideas as to modifications? I love my car and want to make it more fun to drive and make it worthy of having that "Subaru" badge... My budget is about 5k.

Thanks

welcome to the bbs

if you have $5,000 to spend, you should sell your vehicle and use the money to buy something else

you can get a LOT of car for that amount on this board

but if you are super-irrationally attached to your car, i think you will find consensus in the idea that an entire motor swap is better/more-worth-it than adding a turbo to your N/A

i think the reason you haven't found many others tuning 99 brighton wagons is that it would be a very quirky, niche-market thing to do. at that time Subaru was not regarding the Legacy as a sports car, all the Sporty Steering attention was going to the Impreza, and likewise all the aftermarket support also targets the impreza

all that said, I'm sure that suspension upgrades will make you have more fun driving, even without power up

modern legacy models have vastly different rear suspension set-ups, but I think your model year should still be compatible with impreza stuff (not that all of it fits perfectly, but most of it can work to some degree)

as this is your first post I'll be the first to encourage you to search

and if you haven't already you ought to check out the stickied threads at the top of each forum

no matter what you build or what you buy, this message board can help you

Agree to $4000, fly to the east coast and drive it back.

Sell your brighton to cover the ticket and fuel.

Feel good about the whole thing.

Although there are people here that are familiar with your year of Legacy and what can be done to it, you may have better luck here:

my 2cents keep the brighton your stock reliable DD and parts getter. find a turbo legacy or swapped impreza to mess with. that way you have less stress about breaking it. you should be able to find a NICE turbo legacy for $5k or a pretty decent swapped impreza.
as for your 99 brighton its subarus were talking about here, its like playing with legos to quote the old adage. pretty much anything you can do to one model you can do to another. it just takes some inginuity at times. just head over to nasioc and start reading about phase 2 ej22 turbo builds. or get a usdm wrx swap and get going.
