Project RallyX: 1991 Legacy Turbo

Post by Pita84 »

Not sure where else to post. Vehicle journals is blocked and emailed a moderator that can move this if you deem appropriate.

So Ryan (92 Rally) and I just picked up a 91 Legacy Turbo. Here is the start of the photos and the project, I am sure we will keep updating as we go. The VF11 turbo is seized, the plan is to throw a td04 and a wrx intercooler we have sitting around on it and call it a day for a while. It does have the 3.9 limited slip and obvious 2.2T with a 5 speed. Step one is to get the brakes fixed and loose as much weight as possible.

If anyone needs legacy parts besides drive line, let us know!

PARTS NEEDED - (New or Used) : (PM with price or donation :D)
Right front steering knuckle with hub.

Sponsors (PM to inquire) -
Axels Automotive - http://www.axelsautomotive.com
92 Rally
BG Fluids - http://www.bgprod.com

Your next step should definately be suspension.
How do you convince someone to sponsor you for rallycross.

Some companies want exposure and as long as you go to enough events, the exposure on the side of the car is enough for cheap parts here and there. Others want wins, and then the best are just ones you know and are willing to help out. Each sponsor will fall into a different need category on why they would want to help you out.

As for suspension, i believe we are thinking forester struts to bring the car up a bit.

The project is a VERY VERY tight budget this year due to other financial obligations.

Add a big rear swaybar to that list, too. You'll need it.

That's a pretty sweet exhaust setup you got there.

The car is torn apart pretty good now. We are looking into our ABS delete since our rear calipers should be here any day now.

sweet. I have a '92 that I bought as a ice racer/rallyx car.

The exhaust is awesome. the spring things wedged in have coolness written all over them as well.

Good luck, looking forward to some results!

Good luck on your project! My '92 SS is also being (re)built for rally-X, which it was somewhat set up for-the PO used to race it. For suspension, it has STi rear struts, AGX fronts, and STi springs all the way around. I only drove it once before I ripped the motor out, but it felt pretty solid on dirt.

pita... any updates?

My suspension is still in the build process, but so far I have a whiteline adjustable rear swaybar (EBSR19ZX) and ALK kit. Theres a set of KYB AGX struts in the shed, think I'm gonna go with some ground control coilovers, I'm thinking about 225# front and 200# rear. Either 10" or 12", hoping to get 1-2 inches of lift and not sure what springs to go with. researching that now.

Oh yeah, I know this is late and you've probably already worked it out, but an impreza/wrx exhaust fits with very minor modifications. +1.5" pipe and move a couple hangars on the muffler. Everything else lined up.

Our downpipe (SPT) and mid pipe are off of a WRX. The axle back is all custom into a supertrap muffler.

We are having transmission issues at the moment. It needs to come back out and torn down to figure out why we have no reverse.

We have a Build Thread also, click on the link in my signature.
