EJ22T Engines and how much are they worth?

Post by hotdogpimp »

Hi All,

I am/was planning to convert my VW to an subaru ej22 N/A. It just so happens that over a 3 month period I found 3 EJ22T engines all for good prices. The problem is that I'm running out of money to fund my project. I now want to sell at least 1 of these engines. There was one running from canada. It was an automatic with 140,000 km. The other was a junkyard find with 130,000 miles. What do you guys feel is a reasonable price to sell them. They are pretty complete. I've already cut the harnesses for VW so I may have to sell those seperately. Thanks in advance.

Price can vary a lot. In 2006, I got an engine shipped to me from portland for $620. 2009 I sold an engine with blown HG's and some pitting for $250. Both were complete engines too.

Really? How long ago was that? Was it recent?

i recently picked up a full 92 legacy touring wagon with an ej22t for 500$. it was in driveable condition and made it 1000km before getting the engine pulled and dropped into my 97 leg wagon... the engine has 233 000km and still runs strong.

You're going to need the whole car to get the wiring harness, ecu and engine. I did the entire swap myself and for under 1000$

Yeah, I'd go ebay. I don't know if the WRX guys are still interested in these since they have the 2.5s to go for, but NASIOC might be another option worth looking at.

I sold a good block with no internals for $300 plus shipping. I bought the entire engine pretty much complete for $350 locally.

I TURNED DOWN $1400 cash for a bare case. No shit. I felt guilty. So I just took $1100!

I pay/trade $200-400 for them myself....

If someone just wants the bare block, it can fetch as much or more than a complete engine. Time, labor, and whatnot can be worth something.

Ron, formerly from Axis Power, is still building engines with them. He does 2.3 and 2.4l builds with them.

The least I've ever sold one for is $450. The most is $900. I never sell them with the heads and other crap. That stuff is worthless and ends up costing the buyer upwards of $100 in extra freight charges. because you have to palletize it.

With the heads and oil pan off they weight 96lbs and can be put in a large moving box when properly packed with lots of foam and some internal reinforcements or external nylon strapping.

That's good to know. If I could come up with something to do with my heads, I'd sell my spare block.
