Thinking about Re-shelling again lol

Post by smh0101 »

This time my choice... not because the car took a short dip and a flip off a cliff lol

I found a 94 Legacy Turbo Shell w/ 67k miles, white, factory 5mt, PERFECT shape that I think I can pick up pretty cheap...

Its missing the drivetrain, seats, wirings stuff...

Well guess what? I have all those parts in my car! BUT my car looks like ass and has 237k miles on the odometer, and the odometer didnt work for almost a year, so it has probably well over 250k by now... Oh and it needs to be painted, oh and its starting to rust, oh and its so flexible it squeaks like a mofo in corners...

yep, going to look at it today. Hopefully its as perfect as it sounds!

Cuz my car will be killed then re-resurrected once more!

Anyone need a Rally beater shell? lol

haha I thought your car was pretty mint! What creates all these squeaks anyway? What things on the car wear out creating more flex in the chassis?! My car is doing like a noticeable creak in the headliner which wasn't there when I bought it.

My car looks great... from a distance... when you get closer... err... I dont think it looks too good at least...

I believe as the car gets used and abused the whole chassis starts to flex with constant stress and thats why it gets squeakier and less rigid.

If you take a piece of metal and keep flexing it back and forth it eventually looses its strength... not all of it... but some it... same with a car chassis.

That only happens to metal that has deformed plastically. It breaks eventually from dislocations in the grain and crystalline structure.

So basically, the car's structure isn't going to get weaker over time, unless it corrodes significantly.

As cars get stronger and stronger, our sense of how (not) strong our cars are changes.

Funny thing, I think my noises started after installed the fender braces LOL. I need to get a strut brace. Hopefully it will clear my IC just fine.

Just curious, but why'd somebody strip parts off that low-mileage shell? Impreza swap or something?

Nope... The guy who had it bought it with the intention of building the "most badass subaru" on the west coast... He had started a shop that immediately flopped and the project got trashed. So somehow Jarrad from PDX Tuning ended up with it in his garage... and now its mine! lol
