suspension question 1990
my car is entirely stock, i would like to stiffen up the suspension but not really loose any ride height. Could i just throw some ebay coilovers in and max them to the top? any tips or suggestions are welcome. I have always just drove my legacy as a winter beater but now i would like to make it a little more compatible to the way i drive.. thanks
sold my s2000 now rocking the 1990 legacy
Whats your budget? Suspension on the 90's is either spendy, time consuming, or both. I put on some KYB struts for pretty cheap (about $300 for a kit from ebay) and put them on myself with stock springs and was very happy with the results (slightly over damped, which I prefer).
One other thing that I did, which a lot of people frown on was to put some "spacers" on the rear springs. Essentially they are just two bolts with curved plates in between that you can tighten in between two of the coils to lock them out, which in turn increases the spring rate. I did it mainly to increase the ride height in the rear a tiny bit and also to stiffen it up since I spend a lot of time carrying four people and ski gear. Initially I was concerned about them falling out, but a year later and many rough back roads I have yet to have a problem.

wrx springs are an upgrade (rate wise) and you should be able to find someones take-offs for free.
Read the sticky and this:

for info on putting them on, it's pretty easy.
Sti springs are stiffer yet, but I think they'll lower you.
