12v pwr to a few sensors, input please

Post by vipergtrdj »

Well I just finished wiring up my car. Its a '01 Impreza L, which I dropped a '92 Legacy ej22e ecu in - with the full wire harness from ecu to engine. I spliced into my stock harness for power, grounds, and couple other things like starter sw, ac switch, ignition, etc.

But now for my problem - at the ignitor I am getting 12v on all 4wires (from ecu and to coil pack), as well as at the coil pack I am getting 12v (on the yellow wire). I have re-checked all my wiring and where I should only be getting 5v I am getting 12v (sensor pwr on my stock wire harness).

I am also getting 12v at the injectors. This with with the key at the "ON" position but engine not running. Also after about a minute the external ignitor smokes and is extremely hot to touch. It does still work as I plugged it into a friends legacy and her car starts right up.

When I crank the engine it cranks and cranks but will not start - I am assuming this is due to the wiring issue.

Anyone know what the voltage readings should be at those sensors? My wiring diagram says it should only be 5v but I am getting 12v from the sensor pwr line on my stock harness.

-- I have read other threads and checked everything that was suggested in those threads.

I believe there was a mysterious ground wire for the ignitor referenced in some other swap threads that had caused some issues.

There is a diode that also has caused issues..

That ignitor shouldn't be smoking.....

What sensor voltages are you wanting?

Have you traced/verified all your wiring from the ECU pins to the sensor connector pins?

I'm pretty sure the 12v at the injectors is normal with the key on. They work in a negative trigger rest at 12 volts state.

Mike is correct, you will have 12v at the injectors with the key on.

The diode issue relates to not getting 12v at the injectors - he's good there.

I think there's some problem between the way the new style integrated coil/ignitor is wired vs. the old style.
