Oy, that's sickening. I can't stand drunk drivers. The Legacy driver is lucky to be alive. It sucks that the drunk driver escaped with minor injuries. Good thing he'll be charged with vehicular assault.

Wonder what it looked like before Jaws of Life chopped it up.

When I was looking to buy a new Subaru in 1998, I was in the dealership and some dude was looking at buying a Forester for his daughter. She had been in a 1st gen Legacy and was hit head on by a drunk driving the wrong way up the highway without lights. The drunk's car then spun off and hit a family in an Escort. The girl in the Subaru walked away with barely a scratch while the family in the Escort was killed. It had made the news about a week earlier and the father was talking about how the Subaru saved her life with the engine going under the car rather than into the passenger space.

I didn't buy the 2.5GT wagon, but I did buy Duchess.

I don't understand the drunk thing—I've never been drunk but unaware of it. I guess they just don't care. To me, that's like blindly firing off a gun in a residential area. Same with texting. Actually texting is worse since, presumably, the drunk can at least see where he's going, but that's a different rant.

That is horrible to see. Damn drunk drivers.

Realistically the car did its job and as mentioned id like to see before it was cut up. Chassis didn't crumple up but the front did and the engine went under the car which is good. I wonder if it was 60mph vs 60 mph?

But the 'drunk' part is much easier to fix than the other two.

Almost happened to me once as well. Had my '84 GL and was coming up a hill on a 2-lane highway (actually the same as the one where the Escort family was killed, but the other side) and I got a strange feeling to change into the 2nd lane, so I did. A few seconds later a 6-cylinder K-car came blowing down the passing lane over the top of the hill. Would have been a nice 120 mph or more closing speed. The GL was tough, but not that tough.

Extremely ignorant statement...and I hope you're not using it to justify your drunk driving

Pictures like the one above are why I take great pleasure in arresting drunk drivers, even it does mean I get to do paperwork for three hours afterward.

Yeah, I don't think I'd help one out of a burning wreck like I hear people do on the news occasionally. Especially not if I was the guy he hit! Oh well, dude—reap what you sow.

A majority of annual road deaths are related to DUI and that's completely controllable. If the number of fatal crashes dropped by the number of DUIs, think how much lighter, efficient, and fun cars could be with not having to be overbuilt to satisfy a public who's scared when they get on the road. Of course, if the infrastructure wasn't allowed to be built around the automobile, maybe licensing could be more strict in the first place.

And notice the drunk driver always seems to survive. I wouldn't care if they only killed themselves.

Someone told me that drunks in Ohio get a bright orange license plate as a Scarlet Letter to alert other drivers. I suppose if you're going to allow them on the road at all, that's not a bad idea. If nothing else, it may shame them. Then again, that shame may lead them to drink more... Wait, how much does a bullet cost?

Thats why I love Subaru's cars. I always have and always will, but I had an MR2 and if that would have happened to me, I dont even know what would have been the outcome.

A coworker had a new super nice Chevy(?) 2500 extended cab truck, and was hit by two drunk drivers one night. Everybody was ok, after the accident. However, the funniest thing was that my coworker never had un-insured motorist coverage because he thought it was a rip off.

He had to pay nearly half what he spent on buying the truck to get it fixed, and then had to sue the broke ass drunk drivers for what ever he could get out of them. Oh man it was a great time. At the beginning of the shift I would ask him how his truck was coming along at the shop! :-D Good times indeed!

if cops were able to pull the drunk drivers out and shoot them in the head, i think there would not be as much drunk drivers. i know i would think twice even if i was drunk. im not talking about the ones that get into wrecks im talking about any drunk driver.

hmm wait if i get cought the cop is allowed to kill me on the spot. nevermind. who has a number to a taxi?

What difference does it make what those stats are? Driving under the influence is still a majorly stupid thing to do.

(BTW, DUIs account for HALF of the USA's annual road deaths)
