Um, that makes no more sense than before. I watched that video and I've watched that episode when it came out but there was no mention of Toyota in it.
So I'm still confused. Also sad that subaru lost to mitsubishi.

OK, what I mean is that Toyota buying Subaru is harder to tolerate when Subaru shits the bed on their flagship product
It might not be Toyota's fault, but they didn't make it happen either
the STi is probably an amazing car, but, it's apparently not up to modern standard of awesome
you said it best, it is sad to see, the Subaru that brought so many of us in is not around anymore.

Toyota bought GM's share of FHI in 2005. Are you saying that GM was responsible for the 2000-2005 awesomeness of the STI?

Um, Toyota owns about 17 percent of FHI. I doubt they have much to do with what's happened at Subaru lately, for better or for worse.

I don't know—they are getting heavier, uglier, more boring, and probably less reliable. Sounds like modern Toyota to me.
Toyota is the new GM. I foresaw it happening in the nineties as they exploded in size (I worked in manufacturing and quality control so I knew quality was going to suffer. It HAS to) and it proves more true every year. When such boring cars are no longer rock-solid reliable and they can't sell on an outdated reputation anymore, who will buy them? Their quality reputation is already suffering and they better reign that shit in before it becomes common perception. GM sat on a good rep for years, but they did it in an age of slower news and lower expectations while consistently offering more interesting cars than Toyota does (which couldn't be any easier to do—they don't even make the lackluster Celica anymore and that upcoming overpriced Lexus supercar is a joke and future white elephant).

GM sold it's 20% stake in FHI in 2005, and Toyota bought 8.7% of that, with FHI buying back the rest.
Edit: in 2008 TMC expanded it's ownership to 16.5% of FHI
Hell, Toyota was/is rumored to be interested in purchasing a stake in Boeing.

Oh, and they also stole their ad slogan from Packard, a dead standard bearer of quality cars.
