Recommended Manual Boost Controllers

Post by SubaruNation »

Hey guys,

long story short my EBC is not controlling my boost like it should be and im looking for a nice MBC to plumb in and actually control my boost with... since i really have no control otherwise.

I was looking into a new EBC but that would cost alot and i would have to mess with wiring which i really dont want to do.. at all. plust the EBC still partially works in terms of showing me what level im at and what mypressures are.

And ideas as to what really nice manual ones would be?

thanks,
Zach - Legacy Frankenstin

It's a direct drop in and very nice MBC.

They are basically all the same. I would recommend the Hallman one, I got one off of Nasioc for $30 and it works great. Never heard of the one above, but I know Josh would never recommend something he hasn't/wouldn't put on his own car. I just wouldn't buy a cheap ebay one or anything personally. You can make one yourself for $10-20, but I've never heard a bad thing about Hallman so I had to pick that one up for 30. Best of Luck!

I ran the JoeP before deciding to go stand alone, otherwise I would still be running it.

I wasn't trying to down on JoeP, I've just never owned one. I was just stating that Hallman is a well known brand that I have a few weeks experience with and no problems so far.

As long as it uses a ball and a spring you will be fine. Bleed valve boost controllers hurt your spool significantly and have variation between gears.

Josh, I looked at the pictures of your MBC install. Did you completely unplug and remove your old BCS? If so, did it throw any codes?

Yes I completely unplugged and removed the stock BCS. Out of coincidence, the automatic tranmission dropping resistor has the exact same plug as the BCS, and mounts to the back side of that bracket. So I just put the dropping resistor in and hooked up the BCS to it. No CEL, no issues.

Ah! Very creative. So could I go to a junkyard and pick up one of those resistors from an automatic and do the same thing?

Zach, I have a bunch of different diagrams you can use. They're for running an EBC with an EWG.

Hey Josh,

it works but im not sure if i can actually limit it. we are working on it today while we are tuning the car. the spikes may be because of too much gain.. aka too much spool too fast. weird.

all this crazy digital gain vs load vs limits business...

i have you in mind though still, if you want to sell it to someone else go ahead. may be awhile before i get this finalized.

-also aaron you are a punkass :)
check your PMs.

As of now, no one's made any definitive interest in it. Just wanted to see if you were still interested.

Keep me posted on how things are going :)
