Subaru factory fog lights 91 legacy

Post by SuperRallyRoo »

Question is can they be replaced with something like some Hella 500 driving lights without redoing the wiring? Will it be fine plug and play or will I have to ad some extra relay or something? Anyone know what the wattage was on these things? Mine are totally broken and FUBAR'd  I don't wanna blow fuses left and right or set the car on fire or something. (Sucks at wiring)

My 91 didn 't come with fog lights and there was no wiring for it. As far as I know, none of the USDM 91 Legacies had fog lights or wiring for them.

I had to move the blinkers form the bumper to the corner lights and custom fit and wire my driving lights from scratch.

when i bought this car (91 SS) it already had this bumper and fog lights due to it being in a front end collision, they replaced it with what i believe is a JDM bumper. I had to do all the wiring and get the switches and bezels to make it look stock.

Well I wasn't asking how to install wiring, the vehicle does have factory fog lights wired to factory fog light switch. I believe it was a dealer option. Anyway I just wanna know if I can snip the oem fogs off and put on some hella 500's or something without causing an electrical fire or some crap.

check the bulb wattage on the factory lights. If the after markets are the same wattage then you are fine, if they are more then you should upgrade the wiring.

Ok haha... Uh I don't actually know what the wattage on these lights are because they are totally broken and don't seem to say anywhere. I know they are the factory ones. I suppose I could call up subaru or something and ask them? Maybe I'll try that.

the wattage is on the bulb. its probably 55watt, thats pretty standard. Some aftermarkets have 65watt bulbs to get a brighter light output from a smaller ficture.

I normally run 100 watt bulbs in my driving lights, p0wered off a relay, with battery direct 12v power.

I melted a switch trying to run them straight thru...
and I know "100 watt bulbs aren't legal for on road use" ... but they sure brighten the road up..
