$$$ Spent on OEM Parts

Post by kimokalihi »

I was checking my latest order's status on 1stsubaruparts.com and decided to go through my order history and see how much I've spent at the Renton, WA dealership via their website 1stsubaruparts.com.

$1,674.18

That's not including parts I've bought at my local dealership, Hanson Motors.

If I had bought all those parts at Hanson Motors I bet it would be a bare minimum of $2,000. Probably more like $2,500 though.

I didn't think I had spent that much money though just on OEM parts. Damn.

Then you can factor in 3 engines, a tranny, swaybars, turbos, intercoolers, suspension, headliner, canadian seatbelts, trim pieces, shift boot, shift lever, shift knob, Misc bushings, motor mounts, trany mount, pitch mount, headlights, hoses, spark plugs, oil filter, spark plug wires, clutch resevoirs, air box, sunroof, gas tank, rear diff, driveline, axles, more axles, intake spacers, scoop, fender braces, ECU, Harness, Arc airbox, crossmembers, full exhaust, 2 more mufflers, muffler tips, custom key, downpipe.....

And I know I'm forgetting several things.

I don't even want to know how much I'm into this project and it doesn't even run yet.

I didn't add it ALL up. Just the OEM parts. I didn't even put the price of the car in there lol.

I think that dealership should hook me up from all the money I've spent on parts there.

Or at least not charge me $12.95 minimum for shipping on every order when the last thing I needed to order from them was 2 studs for my rear diff.

Went to the local dealership for that order and they had to order them in which took a week. Plus I ended up paying about $10 for them. Which would have been about $18 if I had ordered from the renton dealer because of their shipping minimum charge.

wow kimo, thats crazy..... but your frikkin WHOLE car is getting something done to it. You had the whole car apart, and replaced most of them with aftermarket or OEM parts, So its almost like your going to have a new car :D a SWEET new car that anyone else would laugh at if you said that but that doesn't matter :P

Yeah, I suppose you're right. But I won't tell just anyone what's been done to my car or they will laugh. They already laugh at me just about every day at work. And they have no idea what I've done to my car aside from my engine swap.

They just think it's funny because I'm spending money on a car that's nearly 20 years old and they're all a bunch of Ford lovin' morons.

They spend all day talking about how awesome their big block cars are and how I should have just bought an old classic and spent the money on one of those motors and it would be a lot faster. But I tell them it would handle like shit and I would like to do some type of racing in this car. And not dragstrip racing either.

They talk trash about subaru all the time but none of them have ever owned a subaru or probably ever driven one for that matter.

dude, I spent more on my engine rebuild and that was all stock components minus the turbo etc. I'm at around 15k including the car. I think you are doing ok if you ask me considering if I get 3k for the car now I'd be lucky.

yea, most people don't understand what this car is or care for that matter.... fast in a straight line is fun, but it doesn't prove shit... it proves you have put money into your car, doesn't prove you can drive or your car can be driven properly

I think one of them knows that. He's just an arogant bastard. He's taken a ride this year in Pastrana's rally car. I guess pastrana and block rally out here on some logging roads in a place called Brooklyn. Never heard of it but apparently it's out past Oakville, WA which is pretty near where I work.

My friend knows pastrana and one of recent races they stopped by his house in Oakville. He said he'll never take another ride in a rally car again after pastrana had the car on the edge of a cliff or something and he looked down and it was just a drop off right outside his door.

They don't understand why I wouldn't just take out a big loan and buy an STI. There's no satisfaction in that. I've built this car by myself. Hours upon hours of work all done by me. Or I could buy an STI and be another young guy with a car he can't afford and I'd still want to mod it and that would really get expensive.

I took an sti out for a test drive and beat on it. Maybe it was the fact that it was quieter than my wagon but it did NOT seem to be quicker at all. Our cars with some minor mods can be pretty damn quick AND reliable.

well said Kimo, but the ONLY thing that sucks major ass is, if it gets wrecked, your fault or not, you won't get SHIT for it and all that work is nothing to insurance. I got like 2400 for a 5mt ss with 130k on the clock... I was so pissed but it wasn't worth paying a lawyer however much just to get a few hundred bucks... but if you can pick up another SS and swap most of the stuff over your golden, but then its just that much more work to be exactly where you were at before the wreck

Yes.....never add the costs up...you won't like it ;)

I have an idea of all the individual costs of my swaps and big ticket items....but I never add them all up....it'd be ridiculous.

Never add up how much you've spent - just enjoy the savings you've made by purchasing parts at a discounted rate...

I justified half the purchases on my car due to the simple fact that I paid half price on ebay :-P

I did save a lot of money by not buying at the dealership but instead locating the cheapest online dealership website and buying everything like half price.

I also saved a ton of money by buying most of my stuff used off NASIOC or here.

See? That's half the fun- you paid less than some sucker who runs directly to the dealer without checking other prices first!

I just ordered 3 sets of headgaskets from subarugenineparts - saved a lot more than I would have if I went to the dealer in town.

[smug Subaru parts employee]Yeah, discounts are pretty cool.[/smug Subaru parts employee]

I don't like to think about what I've spent either... especially considering what I have to show for it.
